Why You Should Go To New York
Intro
If you could go anywhere in the world for one week, where would you go? I would go to New York because it is an amazing city! With all the historical sites, memorable shopping, and awesome celebrity sightings, you should consider going!
Historical Sites
The first reason you should go to New York is because there are many historical sites you can visit. The first historical site is one known worldwide, the Statue of Liberty. “A gift to the American people from France, the statue was erected on Bedlow Island, (now Liberty Island), in 1886. The statue stands 306 feet (93 m) tall and weighs 450,000 pounds (240,000 kilograms).” (page 114) The second site is Ellis Island Immigration History Center. Many passed through this building on their way to a new life. “When you visit this national monument and museum, you’ll gain extraordinary insight into the lives of more than 25 million immigrants from all over the world.” (page 114) The last historical site is the Empire State Building Observatory. This is a great place to view the city from. “You’ll have a bird’s eye view of the city from atop the historic Empire State Building.” (page 114-115)
Shopping and Fashion
The second reason you should visit New York is because it is one of the most leading fashion cities in the world, therefore, the shopping is great! First of all, on 5th Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan, there is the “Miracle Mile”. It is called the “Miracle Mile” because on 5th Avenue, there are the most famous retail shops in the world. On Broadway, there are many historical theatres where world class plays take place. Second of all, there are many amazing and important fashion shows in New York. Last, the garment and textile industry found its roots in America, in New York City, and because of that, it, along with Paris, has grown into the fashion capitol of the world. (page 114 and 115)
Celebrities
The last reason you should go to New York is because there are many celebrities that frequently visit, or even live there! Also, many celebs grew up in New York, too! One person who was born in the Bronx, in New York, is Jennifer Lopez. “Born in 1969, Lopez is a multitalented entertainer- a singer, dancer, and actress….” (page 76) Another man you may have heard of who moved from Paris, France to New York when he was 7 years old is Yo-Yo Ma. “He began playing the cello whe4n he was four…” “Genius on the cello.” (page 77). One last celeb you might know of is Derek Jeter. “As a child he lived in Michigan and played little league baseball….” (page 81) “He now plays for the Yankees in New York!.” (Please note that you may not see these celebrities there, but different celebrities altogether!)
Conclusion
Now that you know all of these interesting facts about New York, like, the historical sites you can visit, the awesome shopping you can do and the fashion you can see, and the great celebrities you can see, one day, I hope you might decide to visit this amazing city!
