The Grizzly Growl
October Edition
PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
October 2022
Dear Grassfield High School Families,
Welcome to October and Fall 2022! Grassfield High School is focusing on the Grizzly Way and rebuilding an incredible school culture, which all lead to more academic success for our students. Thank you for your support and reinforcement of the CPS revised dress code and acceptable use policy for electronic devices.
October is a busy month with the return of One Lunch, the PSAT, Pink Out, the SOL Fall Writing Test, an SCA movie night, and the PTSA Craft Show, as just a few examples. One Lunch is a one hour lunch and activity period that provides all students an opportunity to eat lunch and also participate in club meetings, academic study sessions, exercise, or socialize with friends they may not normally see during the school day. The PSAT test is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12. Please see the additional enclosed information regarding this national test. Pink Out is an annual volleyball tradition as we raffle off gift baskets and wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The Fall SOL Writing Test window (Jr.’s) is from October 17-28. Our national award SCA will sponsor a pajama school day and an outdoor movie night on October 21 (7-9pm). The PTSA Fall Craft Show has sold out all vendor spaces and will have something for everyone during the fair at school on Saturday, October 22.
Please review the information enclosed for important information and details that will provide important information for both parents and students. Please refer to our website and our social media sites on Twitter and Instagram for the latest information and events.
Lastly, congratulations to our incredible math teacher Mrs. Vicki ReDavid for being recognized by her colleagues as the Grassfield High School Teacher of the Year for 2022-2023.
Thank you for your support, and as always, Go Grizzlies!
Proud To Be a Grizzly,
Mike Perez

ONE LUNCH IS BACK!
Impact Aid Cards
Dear Grassfield Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for partnering with us at Grassfield High School by filling out your Impact Aid card to ensure we receive proper funding. The Impact Aid program provides funding directly to school divisions to compensate for lost real estate revenues for federal property based on the number of federally connected students in our total enrollment. The funding we receive benefits all students, so it is important that all families complete the Impact Aid card.
To learn more about Impact Aid, visit the U.S. Department of Education website: www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oese/impactaid.
The cream survey cards will be sent home on October 18, 2022. Please complete and return it to Grassfield High School by October 19, 2022. Cards should be returned to your student's first block teacher. If you received this card by mail, please use the provided self-addressed, stamped envelope to mail it back to the school. Directions are provided on the back of the card to assist you in completing the survey card.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Grassfield High School so we can assist you.
Thank you again for your help,
Michael Perez

STUDENT ACTIVITES
GHS Field of Valor Veteran's Day Salute
The Field of Valor is BACK!
Our GHS Field of Valor is a tradition aimed at generating a visual and heart-felt salute to military service members in recognition of Veterans Day through a display of American flags. Individual miniature flags can be sponsored to recognize family, friends, Grizzly alumni, Chesapeake Gold Star Service Members as part of our Field of Valor. Flag sponsorship is just $2 and flags are labeled in honor of the service member. All proceeds go to benefit our local Chesapeake veterans through Chesapeake’s own Veterans of Foreign Wars post command.
Sponsorship forms are available through Tuesday, November 1st.
The Field is planted by our students and ready for observance of the holiday. Flags are planted alphabetically and folks are encouraged to visit their flags. Our hope this year is to sponsor over 1,200 flags to fly in front of Grassfield High School and around the Cody Childers Memorial. Please consider supporting this wonderful service-learning activity.
If you would like to sponsor a flag to honor a loved one, or even a GHS alumni or teacher, payment can be sent to Grassfield High School (Attn: Kim Hammers) or made online via the OSP system. Choose one of the following options:
