Athens was a polis on the peninsula of Attica, Greece. It was a port city that encouraged trade with others. Because of its location, Athens developed a strong navy using ships called triremes. The agora in Athens was always busing with a variety of activities occuring such as theatre, trials, buying and selling of goods, debates, and even haircuts!
