The Fontaine Flier
August 30, 2013
What a fabulous week!
Can I just tell you how much I love this class! They love to read! They love to write! They even love singing the math songs I write!
In reading we learned about author's purpose (ask your child about P.I.E.) . This week we also started to write about our thinking in our Interactive math and ELA notebooks and we can't wait to share them with you! We also are well on our way with Daily 5! Students are able to work independently for 30 minutes while I work with guided reading groups. I am so proud of them! In math we finished up Topic 1 Addition and Subtraction and learned all about fact families and how they help make math easier for our brains. Our math workshop is up and running and they are all handling it so well! Look for Topic One math tests, spelling post tests and spelling pretests to come home in Friday backpacks. We started writer's workshop and they are all proving to be amazing little authors!! We learned from Lucy Calkins this week, a famous writing expert, to truly value our writing, to read our writing like gold and not like a curmudgeon. (I just love that word!) We will hopefully get our blog up and running today. Feel free to leave comments! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Cutie Pie (The class voted on the name.) is a little stuffed zebra that will be coming home, along with a journal. Students will each have the opportunity to take Cutie Pie home throughout the year and journal about all the adventures they have together. Feel free to include photos along with their writing.
Project Based Learning-We will be wrapping up our paper slide video projects this week! As soon as everyone has been video taped, I will post them for your viewing pleasure! They are amazing!!! You will learn a lot, I promise!
Thank you so much for helping out with homework, studying for spelling and sending in the timelines! I feel so fortunate to have such supportive parents!
If anyone is interested in helping out in the classroom or helping sort math materials (second grade teachers will buy you a pop!) , please let me know! We would love to have you!!
