The power of many stories...
Hi Everyone,
Happy Friday!! I hope that you had an amazing week! It’s hard to believe that Halloween happened just a few days ago along with the parade and all the festivities! We had so much fun and a testament to that was our TK and kinder students who somehow were able to sit through a gathering that last 90 minutes after the parade without tears…full of laughter… and happiness. A special thank you to all the staff for making this possible and for Mr. McManus for MC’ing the after parade party for the students!!
As much fun as we had this day… and I hope your experience was as rewarding, I’m also grateful that we offer options to celebrate or not. To honor the needs of all our students and community members. And as we continue to celebrate throughout our year, we will also offer the space to not do that if students choose. Because everyone’s story is important.
I’m reminded of Chimamanda Adichie’s TED Talk on The danger of the single story… As we continue to celebrate our community it’s powerful to consider that what makes us so special is that we have commonalities and differences.
I love this on the macro and the micro level. Because what makes each us beautiful is that we carry our own specific strengths and challenges and view of the world around us. We share some of these strengths and challenges, but it’s the different combinations we bring that make each of us unique and human and wonderful. We are all learning how to interact with each other and the world around us. And as we bring each of our stories together our community grows stronger.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Magicians and Muggles Welcome: Scholastic Book Fair is back Nov 2-10!
Have you ever wondered what a Book Fair at Hogwarts might look like? Come find out when the Scholastic Book Fair comes back to Washington on Nov 2-10!
Every purchase at the book fair will benefit our school. Your student will be able to shop during the school day at lunch and recess, as well as 30 min after dismissal. Be sure to save the date for our Grand Opening Party TONIGHT... Friday, Nov 4 from 5-7 pm!
In the meantime, set up your student's eWallet through our fair's website below. Using an eWallet allows your student to shop the fair during school hours without worrying with cash or credit cards. eWallets can be reloaded as many times as you wish and your balance does not expire!
Our annual Book Fair is a such a fun week for students, families and our teachers and staff, but it takes a village to make it happen. Please consider volunteering at the fair or during set-up or clean-up!

Drop Off SAFETY Reminders from Burlingame PD
Over the last few weeks, I received several parents requests for Burlingame PD to visit and help with some of the stress resulting from drop off in the mornings. Yesterday, Officer Rumbaugh was here to help. She pointed out a few key areas for us to improve on:
- Please be sure to pull all the forward in the loading zone, especially on Arundel.
- Please REMAIN IN YOUR CAR. It is important that you DO NOT leave your car unattended while in the loading zone. *If you prefer to walk with you child, which is absolutely okay!!! Please park on a side street and walk in.
- Please make sure your child uses the cross walk. DO NOT allow your child to cross the street EXCEPT at the cross walk. Today I observed 8 students crossing Arundel in the middle of the street (within 5 minutes). Two of those were nearly hit by oncoming cars.
Thanks to Officer Rumbaugh for stopping by to help us out!!!
Outdoor Ed is NOW 5 NIGHTS!!
I wanted to thank all the parents who asked about our Outdoor Ed experience being shorter than usual at the PTA meeting and Marla Silversmith. Marla, our Associate Superintendent, went to bat for us with the county and we were able to correct the dates from 4 to the full 5 nights!!! We're so excited to haver a return to Outdoor Ed and to have the full 5 nights (May 15-19)!!!
