Words from our new Principal Jason Stier
It is with great enthusiasm that I announce my role as new principal of Riverview East High School. As longtime Art Teacher at REHS I have had the privilege of teaching with an incredible staff and under the inspiring leadership of Nina Reznich. Through my classroom experiences I have developed unforgettable partnerships with students, parents, and community members as we explored the importance of creativity, collaboration, and community. I am now prepared for this new chapter in moving our school forward and growing future generations of REHS graduates.
It is our goal to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens. Collectively we will continue to create opportunities to empower our entire educational community and truly make a difference. Riverview East depends on our friends, families, and community in assuring that our students reach their true potential.
Thank you to all of the staff and students who have placed their faith in me to guide REHS further. It is my passion and purpose. Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions, concerns, or ideas on how to make our school even better.
Sincerely,
Jason Stier
Principal
Riverview East High School
RIVER REC TEEN ZONE FUND RAISER
We are currently hosting a fund-raising effort through Patronicity for River Rec Teen Zone. Our goal is to raise $30,000 by March 23. If we meet our goal, the funds will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
It is our goal to have RRTZ open for youth by this summer. Please help by sharing and contributing whatever you can.
Note From our Teachers!
As we start the new trimester, our staff wanted to share some of the goals we have for our classes in addition to the content that we cover in all of our classes. We are firm believers in the power of a growth mindset and approach each trimester with the belief that all our students are capable of learning and growth. Our goal is to encourage and inspire our students to challenge and build confidence in themselves.
To help achieve this goal, we will ask students to take educational risks and learn through processes, not just one or two large scale assessments. We will be participating in community building to encourage everyone to support one another in their learning. All of this will be done alongside the content that we have always covered, but it should help each student to develop and refine skills that will be beneficial in all aspects of his or her life.
Any encouragement and involvement from home for your student is welcome and if you have any questions or ideas for our development, please feel free to contact our school any time.
We are very excited that each of our students are a part of this and we cannot wait to see what they will accomplish this trimester!
New Lunch Policy
Open Lunch is a privilege that you can earn.
Beginning November 27, 2017 the following policy will be instituted;
1. Only students who are passing all their classes will have an open lunch. This allows students to go out, stay in a classroom or play basketball in the Aux gym at MCHS.
2. A teacher can invite you to work in their classroom to make up missing assignments. You cannot leave the building and must go directly to the classroom after getting food from the cafeteria. It is by INVITATION only. You must be productively working in order to stay in that classroom.
3. Each Monday morning after the first two weeks of the trimester, we will run a report. If you are passing all your classes at that time your open lunch is re-instated for a week. The cycle begins on Monday-Friday. Every Monday we run the report.
4. This was changed because of the number of students who did not pass classes and did not take advantage of time during lunch to make up work.
**** Students who do not follow the new policy and leave without permission will face automatic suspension.

Block Project
YOU ARE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT THOSE BLOCKS ARE DOING OUTSIDE THE MARINER....WELL THEY ARE PART OF THE INSIDE OUT BLOCK PROJECT.
This project is part of a global project but here at home it is spearheaded by Jason Stier. He has captured the portraits of various community stakeholders, educators, and advocates along with students and displays them as art on these wonderful blocks. Look for an art exhibit of all of these blocks at the end of October in Marine City.
ABOUT THE INSIDE OUT PROJECT
On March 2, 2011, JR won the TED prize at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and called for the creation of a global participatory art project with the potential to change the world. This project is called INSIDE OUT.
Inspired by JR’s large‐format street "pastings", INSIDE OUT gives everyone the opportunity to share their portrait and make a statement for what they stand for. It is a global platform for people to share their untold stories and transform messages of personal identity into works of public art.
Visit www.insideoutproject.net for more information.
