Gators Get Going! September, 2015
Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success
From Dr. D. and Dr. T.
Our new student chromebooks are in! We received 68 chromebooks as well as 38 chromebase devices for student use. Ask your students how they are using these productivity tools in class in upcoming weeks! We are so excited about adding individual devices for our students so that they can practice and use real productivity tools! Each student will be able to store documents in a Google Drive that can be accessed from any computer. We know you will enjoy seeing the work they will produce! Our students are also learning so much about STEM--and many of our 3rd-5th grade students are participating in our brand new Science Olympiad, thanks to Ms. Hardin, Ms. Travis, and Ms. Lanier and Ms. Slaton! Also Environmental Club starts soon with support from Ms. Fogle and Ms. Donaldson.
One last note--if you are missing jackets or sweaters, they may be in our overflowing lost and found bin in the front office. Please ask your child to check, or you are welcome to stop in and look for yourself. We will be donating these items to Goodwill at the end of the month.
Please join us for Gator Run and let us know if we can help with anything, at any time. We can be reached at 770-463-5903.

Yeah!! Can you feel the change in the air!! FALL is on its way!
As the season changes you may also see a rise in allergies and an increase in the diagnosis of cold and flu. You might get tired of hearing this, but the best way to protect yourself is good hand washing. Here are some helpful hints…
- Wet hands
- Get soap in palms, rub together hard enough to make “bubbles”
- Wash hands for 15 seconds – sing Happy Birthday to yourself J
- Rinse hands
- Dry hands with a paper towel and use the towel to cut off the water. Don’t dry your hands on your clothes.
- If you don’t have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer is the next best thing.
Also, the 2015 seasonal flu vaccine is now available. Please contact your pediatrician. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta recommends the vaccine for everyone 6 months and older.
Last but not least…if you send “over the counter” medications to school they must be in the original package. Do not send individual tablets. A note with instructions and permission must accompany any medication to be given. A medication cannot be given without parent permission. If it is a prescription medication, it must be in the original package with a pharmacy label and a parent note as well.
Thank you!! Rebecca Sims RN

Swimming in a School of Character:
This month's character word is integrity! Integrity means being strong enough to do what you know is right. Integrity is also knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do the right thing, even when it is difficult. It involves standing up for what you believe in.
Integrity and School
Integrity is having standards that you will not give up, even in difficult times. It means being honest and telling the truth. It is important to teach students the difference between right and wrong, and how to always choose what is right. A person with integrity understands even if others are doing the wrong thing or making wrong choices, he or she will continue to do what is right. Also, a person with integrity can have confidence in their decisions, admit their mistakes, and try their best to correct their behavior.
Having integrity also means trying and learning new things. A student with integrity tries to do just a little better each time, challenging themselves to work harder and improve. Always be the best person you can be! Take the time to discuss the monthly character word as a family and put them into practice.
Red Ribbon Week
The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness. The students and faculty at Arbor Springs will show our commitment to a drug-free lifestyle by participating in various Red Ribbon activities all week long. We will celebrate and honor National Red Ribbon Week from10/26-10/30. Our theme this year is Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free!
Please talk to your children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, peer pressure and embracing integrity by making good decisions.
