The Kora
African Music Project By: Ross Holder
The Kora
The kora is a West African stringed instrument with 21 strings. The sounds of a kora are like the sounds of a harp but when playing it, it is closer to a guitar. The kora is the highest developed string instrument in Africa. You play the kora like a fingerpicking guitar or harp.

The Guitar
The kora has led to the development of the guitar. Guitars are used in all kinds of American music from jazz to rock n' roll. Both of the instruments are string instruments. You can hear the kora in the guitar because in both the sound comes from the strings which when the players moves the strings in makes the sound. How high the sound can be determined by the type of string and the tightness.
