Schoology Update

Reminder - Schoology is the new home for Distance Learning where kids, teachers, and parents will go to look for assignments. Parents and students will use this technology to not only view assignments but to help stay in touch with the teachers.

Resources for Teaching Schoology to Parents and Students - The LCPS office of Educational Technology is developing resources to teach students and parents how to navigate Schoology and complete common tasks. Parents will be provided access to a Parent Experience in Schoology course. The Ed Tech team will provide each school with information about how parents can access the course, and will have that information for the school community on 8/28/2020.

Likewise, students will receive information about how to access the Schoology experience by 8/28. Resources from LCPS are being developed to teach students how to navigate and use Schoology. The Ed Tech team will provide a short intro video and will also be providing short tutorials and practice activities that teachers will be able to take and use in their courses.

Student Schedules

Most families know from the spring course selection what courses they signed up for. Teacher names in those courses will not be available in ParentVUE (Phoenix) until August 28. As always, questions about your child's schedules should be sent to the grade level counselor. Due to the teacher schedules being set back in June, we are unable to change classes at this time.

Curbside Pick up of Materials on August 28 (9 AM to 12 PM)

A Supply List was sent home in previous school communications. However, there are still some materials that the school will be providing.

An email was sent home on August 24 with information about the August 28 curbside pick-up. Please look that over and contact our "curbside contact" and 8th grade dean, eric.mcgrady@lcps.org, with any questions.

Best Way(s) to Contact Us

At this time, the best way to contact us is still through email. If you are unsure who to contact, please send your question(s) to principal, eric.stewart@lcps.org. He will either answer you or include in his email the staff directly responsible for that area. You may also call our main line (540-751-2500) and if we are not available, leave a message and we will call you back.

Distance Learning Information

The LCPS 100% Distance Learning Information has been updated and is also updated on the LCPS website.

Big picture

Learning Lab

You will see from the sample student schedule (above) the use of the wording, Learning Lab (it is in the left column under Bell Schedule). During Learning Lab time, students will receive small group, synchronous instruction during the specified block. The learning lab is a time during which students would be working on that particular subject, and the teacher would pull small groups of students from the class together for synchronous instruction at that time and be available to help remediate, enrich, and challenge them.

What does the AABB schedule mean?

You will notice in the sample middle school student schedule (above) that there are two consecutive A-days and two consecutive B-days. We also refer to this as an AABB schedule. It is not a typo and is accurate for ALL middle and high schools in LCPS. It does mean that students will attend their A-day classes two days in a row and likewise for their B-day classes. Please help explain this to your children so they are not confused. (Whenever we go to the Hybrid schedule, this schedule will allow for the class to be split into those who selected Distance Learning and those who selected Hybrid.)
