Academics

Math- This week we will be preparing for our Unit 3 math test. The test is scheduled for Wednesday. I will send a practice test home with the kids on Tuesday. Our district has decided to rearrange the 4th grade math units a bit, moving Unit 4 (Equations and Word Problems) to the end of the year. So we will be starting Unit 5 (Measurement) on Thursday.

Writing - Students will be taking the NWEA assessment this week during our writing block. Students took this assessment in the fall, and will take it again in the spring. The subjects assessed are reading, language, and math. I will share results with you once testing is complete. If time permits, we will continue with our Persuasive Essay unit. Last week we started reading Persuasive Essays and discussed what they are, and what makes them effective.

Science - A study guide and notebooks for our Land and Water unit was sent home on Friday. Students will be given the test on Tuesday.

Social Studies - This week we will study Human Characteristics in the United States, and gain an understanding of how they are related to nearby physical characteristics.

Reading- This week we will cover that last of the 5 information text structures that we are studying, problem and solution. We will also learn how to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words in our texts.
