Words of Inspiration

"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught as that every child should be given the wish to learn."

-John Lubbock

A Special Applause to...

We're getting a new Greene School! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. I'm excited to get things started with the design team. We are going to create a space where all of the great things you are doing in your classroom will grow exponentially with the new space.

Information for the Staff

Culturally Responsive Practices

At our upcoming Staff Meeting on November 19th, we will be digging deeper into Culturally Responsive Practices. Please preview this brief Speaking from Authority presentation using your Speak Up book and complete the short Google Form prior to the staff meeting!

PTO Fall Gifting

Please submit the request form linked below by Friday, November 22, 2019. The Project committee will meet immediately following the deadline and you will be notified within a few weeks with their decisions.

Please submit any supporting documentation by providing a direct web link to your requested items. All submissions must meet the attached gifting criteria (either at one time or over a defined period of time).

Operation Give Back Donations

As I have in the past years, I am inviting you to join me in making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in our community. Each winter, Operation Give Back creates a store for families to come to and choose gifts for their children. Join me in donating an unwrapped kids toy. You can drop it off in the clinic and Nurse D will make sure we get them to OGB. Donations will be accepted until December 9.

Operation Give Back Volunteer Opportunity

Please find attached the volunteering link for our Holiday Store. Some staff members have participated in the past. This is a special holiday event that lends itself nicely to volunteering with coworkers or families (kids need to be in high school and older), and we welcome any Sycamore staff members who would like to join us!

Thank you and GO AVES!!

Annual CIPA Requirements

CIPA, or the Children’s Internet Protection Act is a piece of federal legislation enacted by Congress in 2000 to address concerns about children's access to obscene or harmful content over the Internet. CIPA imposes certain requirements on schools that must be completed annually. As such, it is important that each team works to develop a plan to complete the outlined CIPA requirements by the end of the quarter. In Blackboard you will find two Digital Citizenship courses. One designed for 5th grade and one for 6th. As a team, please create a plan to ensure that each student is guided through each of the outlined sections in the course. There should be a total of six sections per course. At the minimum, teachers should show students the video embedded in the course and should work to facilitate a discussion of the video using the provided discussion questions as they are outlined. The Student Activities for each section are optional. Once you have completed each section and the course as presented, you will need to complete the following FORM. Any questions? Please feel free to reach out to Lisa for help!
