District Construction Update
Week of June 26th
Continued Progress in Week 6
This past week continued to see progress in many areas of the building. Plumbing continues to move along in the shower and bathroom areas, as well as walls and stalls continuing to be constructed. Progress on the roof continues to move along, as three main areas of the roof are completed. Library renovations resumed this week with carpeting being installed. Daycare renovations are also progressing with plumbing continuing in the bathroom remodel, as well as carpet installation in the infant and baby rooms. A new project kicked off this week with the excavation of the courtyard area to allow for regrading and water drainage work.
We are excited to see the progress being made in and around the building, and are thankful for the dedicated contractors who are making this possible.
ONGOING PROJECTS
Roof Replacement
The lack of rain has certainly been advantageous to the progress of the roofing project this summer. The roofing contractors continue to make great progress each week replacing the old roof. At this point, the high roof above the large gym, the high roof over the Commons, Small Gym, and Tech Ed space, and the 2nd tier roof on the north and northeast side of the building have been completed.

Upper Wall EIFC
Demolition on the upper wall EIFC wrapped up earlier this week. Zander Solutions was on sight this week to spray the walls with a vapor barrier, in preparation for insulation and steel siding to be installed in the coming weeks.

Locker Room Renovations
The theme of the week in the locker rooms this week was building shower stalls. Stalls continued to be built in both Middle School Locker Room showers, with walls just starting to be built in the high school showers.

Bathroom Additions
Plumbing in the bathroom additions continued this week, with the masons beginning to build walls in those areas. At the completion of this project, the district will have four new family-style restrooms for staff, student, and community use.

New Flooring
Demolition is complete on the old flooring. Crews from Kraemer Bros. Construction have removed the tile flooring in the Commons, Commons bathrooms, hallway behind the large gym, maintenance hallway, art hallway, middle school hallway and bathrooms, cafeteria, and Commons area outside the Performance Center. The old tile floors will be replaced with a new epoxy resin floor with colored paint chips.

Library Renovations
The painting project has been completed in the Library. The old circulation desk has been removed, as have most of the bookshelves and wall shelving. New cabinets have been installed. The theme in the Library this week was the removal and installation of the carpet. It was amazing to see how quickly the contractors were able to lay the new flooring in the Library.

DAYCARE RENOVATIONS
We are excited to be able to expand our district daycare this year and add two additional classrooms. This will give us a total of four daycare rooms, allowing us to better divide the age levels, as well as increase the number of children and families we can provide care for. The daycare renovation project includes renovating the bathroom space to create a second bathroom, carpeting the two new infant and baby rooms, and installing a hallway door divider for continued noise reduction and privacy.
COURTYARD DRAINAGE PROJECT
The crew from Showen Excavating were on sight this week to begin regrading the courtyard area to assist with proper water drainage. The goal of this project will be to get rainwater running off the building to drain away from the building. While Showen was on site, they also demoed the existing asphalt walkways, which will be replaced with new concrete sidewalks.

COMPLETED PROJECTS
Large Gym Floor
Resurfacing of the large gym floor has been completed. We were happy to welcome our athletic teams back into the gym this past week for open gym. Stalker Sports Floors did a remarkable job of giving us a beautiful gym floor that we can be proud of for years to come. Work on the Small Gym will begin this upcoming week.
UPCOMING PROJECTS
Several projects will be kicking off over the next several weeks. Those projects include:
- Refinishing Small Gym Floor
- New Epoxy Resinous Flooring With Colored Paint Chips
- Outside Water Drainage Work in North Parking Lot
- Demoliton of Asphalt Parking Lots
- Installation of Concrete Pad for New Greenhouse
- Renovation of Upper Maintenance Shed
- Demolition and Installation of New Windows
- Installation of New Upper EIFC Horizontal Steel Siding
Access to Building
Much of our building is still accessible to staff, students, and the public. We ask any visitors to the building to park in the front (south) parking lot, and use the Middle/High School entrance to come into the building. Currently, the Commons, the hallway behind the large gym, all locker rooms, the maintenance hallway, and the middle school hallway are off limits to the public. Yellow caution tape identifies the areas that are closed off.
General Contractor
We're proud to partner with Kraemer Bros. Construction as the school district's General Contractor, managing the selection of subcontractors, timelines, and project completion. The district previously worked with Kraemer Bros. in the construction of the new school in 1990-91, and the building addition in 1996. We proudly support a successful business based out of southwest Wisconsin (Plain, WI).
Engineering, Architecture, and Design
The district has been working with FEH Design out of Dubuque, IA for the past year on the design, architecture, and engineering of our projects. Kevin and his team at FEH assisted the district through the pre-referendum process, facilitating several community meetings and a community survey. They stayed with us through the referendum, and continue to work with the district on any design or architectural changes as construction is happening.
Boots on the Ground
We are happy to support and partner with several Wisconsin subcontractors to complete work on our projects. Several of these subcontractors are from right here in southwest and western Wisconsin. Contractors and subcontractors on site this past week included:
Kraemer Bros. - Plain, WI
Great Lakes Power Vac - Pewaukee, WI
Higher Ground Roofing - Kewaskum, WI
Zimmerman Plumbing - Portage, WI
McCormick Electric - Gays Mills, WI
Winona Heating and Ventilation - La Crosse, WI
Foggy Bottoms Woodworking - Muscoda, WI
