North Avenue News
August 2020 Issue 1 - Gonzales ISD
Greetings Apache families! It is hard to believe the first day of school is right around the corner and we are busy preparing for our scholars to return, both onsite and via online. We look forward to making an impact on all scholars lives and look forward to a year of growing and learning. The educators have been back for two weeks and are excited to see scholars in their physical and online classrooms. They are working hard to set up their classrooms as a safe learning environment to ensure social distancing can be maintained and that it is also conducive to fostering learning. The educators have been planning and collaborating with their teams to ensure we are providing scholars with a meaningful and rigorous curriculum for both onsite and online scholars.
Important Information about Face Coverings
To ensure the health and safety of our scholars, faculty and staff, all scholars are required to put on their face covering before entering the building each morning. Scholars will continue to wear their face covering throughout the day, during their classes, unless at recess and/or while eating in the cafeteria. Thank you for helping to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
COVID-19 Waiver and Using QR Code
- Scan QR code that is on the front door with your phone.
- Please answer all COVID-19 screening questions.
- Once all questions have been answered and you press submit, a staff member will then open the door for you to gain entrance into the school office.
- Please remember a face covering is required to enter the building.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
We are anticipating handing out our Chromebooks for online and onsite scholars on Monday, August 24, 2020. Your scholar (online and onsite) will be assigned a Chromebook only if they have fully registered and have signed the Acceptable Use and Handbook Agreement on page 19 of the 1:1 Handbook located HERE. If you do not have access to a printer, you can stop by the school anytime over the next 2 days to fill one out. The forms are located on the table in front of the school. Please stay tuned to our North Ave. 6th Grade Center Facebook Fan Page for more detailed information on dates and times when Chromebooks can be picked up. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Medication Drop Off
If your scholar requires medication to be taken at school, Nurse Christian, will be available via appointment only today, Thursday, August 19, 2020 and tomorrow, Friday, August 20, 2020. Please contact the school office at 830-672-9557 to arrange for drop off. If you are trying to locate health forms, please click HERE.
Arrival and Dismissal of Scholars
Looking for information about the updated dress code? Look no further, click HERE. Our focus continues to be safety, thus belts are no longer required as long as pants/shorts fit snugly on the waist. The principal will make final determination if any dress attire and/or grooming interferes with normal school operations and/or distracts from the educational setting.
Lunch for Onsite Scholars
A big thank you to Gonzales ISD for providing free lunch for every scholar this year! If your scholar chooses not to eat the lunch that is being provided, they are welcome to bring their own lunch to school. We want to make you aware that this year, North Avenue will be hosting 3 separate lunches for our scholars which will help ensure safety and social distancing in the cafeteria. Also to ensure we maintain safety as our top priority, scholar lunches cannot be dropped off and visitors will not be allowed on campus. We truly appreciate your understanding during these unprecedented times.
Lunch for Online Scholars
Lunch pickup for our online scholars will be Monday - Friday at 11:30am. Parents and scholars can pickup lunches at the back door of the cafeteria, located on St. Paul Street by the bus stop. Please ring the doorbell to be served. We respectfully request that you wear a face covering when picking up lunches to ensure the safety of our hardworking and dedicated food service staff.
Have PRIDE in your TRIBE
In order to ensure high quality communication with our parents and scholars, educators will be using the REMIND app as our form of communication. Please make sure to enroll in each of your students classes to ensure you are receiving all the communication that will be delivered to parents/guardians. Click HERE to see all Remind codes.
