ColorCycle Program: Crayola and schools across North America are banding together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. That’s why we launched Crayola ColorCycle. Through this initiative, students in K-12 schools across the continental United States and parts of Canada can collect and repurpose used Crayola markers.
Collection boxes will be available in the school lobby and in each classroom.

Governor Winslow Readers have been thoughtful and reflective as I asked them to express what they are feeling gratitude for this month. Family members, pets, special friends, travel experiences, and of course, favorite foods, were at the top of most lists! I am grateful for the love of reading instilled in GWS Students! Grades K, 1, and 2 enthusiastically listen weekly to a variety of picture book selections. Grade 3 is enjoying the book Bob, by Wendy Mass & Rebecca Stead. Grades 4 & 5 are engrossed in the riveting, Escape from Baxters' Barn, by Rebecca Bond. I am truly enjoying reading to your children and the interesting discussions we have on plots, storyline predictions, and character development. Happy Thanksgiving!

UNDER THE LINDEN TREE
Under the Linden Tree is an annual publication, unique to GWS, presenting the writings of our students. This volunteer effort and PTO-supported magazine publishes original stories, poems, songs, plays, essays and other creative written works submitted by GWS students. It is a wonderful chance for your student(s) to express their creative writing and have it published in a REAL journal that will be a forever keepsake in your home!
Parents/guardians/teachers are encouraged to submit any work or assist the student in brainstorming a new piece, getting their original ideas down on paper whenever this is appropriate. Dictation is perfectly fine, as long as the words are the child’s. Each author may submit multiple written pieces per edition; accompanying artwork is optional. If artwork is included, please follow the guidelines on the submission form carefully to ensure the best reproduction. All pieces are published as submitted, therefore editing and proofreading are the responsibility of the child and the parent/guardian.
Please email submissions to gwslindentree@gmail.com.
Our submission deadline is Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
Your emailed submission is the permission to publish authorization; no additional signed forms are necessary. If you are unable to submit electronically, please have your student drop the hard copy of the piece, along with a signed submission form including contact information, into the hollow of the Linden Tree in the front lobby. Any questions, please contact Nicole Afanasiw at gwslindentree@gmail.com

EARN MONEY FOR GWS AS YOU CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS!
Put your unwanted items to good use by dropping them in our textiles recycling bin, located in our parking lot near the trash dumpsters. Ninety-five percent of all textiles can be recycled.
The following can be donated as long as they are clean & dry: clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, table linens, bed linens, draperies, throw rugs, and stuffed animals. Please place your items in plastic bags so that they will stay dry.
GWS will earn $100 for every ton of textiles placed in our recycling bin.
