Thanks for Your Support During These Challenging Times!
It has been a rewarding, historic and challenging school year so far as we worked together to make the hybrid/VLA instructional model (Yellow Status Level) a huge success! Thank you!
Now, as PLSD prepares to move to the Green Status Level on November 16 (for all but Virtual Learning Academy students), we are again asking for your support, patience and understanding during the transition. We do not know what the future holds, but school administrators are continually monitoring the number of cases in the state, county and district, and stand ready to make adjustments to PLSD's status level, if warranted.

District Earns Two Prestigious Awards for Financial Reporting
Pickerington Schools and the district's Treasurer's Office recently received two awards for excellence in financial reporting.
Popular Annual Financial Report
Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has given an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting to Pickerington Schools for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2019. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.
In order to receive an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal.
An Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is valid for a period of one year only. This marks the 14th consecutive year that Pickerington Schools has received the Popular Award.
The reviewers commented favorably that they were able to trace information easily to the District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), and that the combination of visually appealing charts, graphs, and easy to understand language assists the reader in comprehending the financial data derived from the more complex CAFR.
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
Pickerington Schools’ Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2019 was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial reporting.
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR), whose contents conform to program standards. Such a CAFR must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. This marks the 10th consecutive year that Pickerington Schools has received this Certificate of Achievement.

October Plan for Progress Blog Post Is Online
Board of Education President Lori Sanders is the guest author of the October Plan for Progress Promise blog post, which discusses teaching students about the electoral process. Here's an excerpt from her post:
One of the things I love most about election season is the opportunity for students to learn and see democracy in action … You can clearly see that interest in many of our buildings! For example, on election day, Jenna Mayer’s second grade classroom at Toll Gate Elementary will set up a voting booth, complete with registration cards, and students who vote will get an ‘I Voted Today’ sticker. The students will be voting on hot dogs and hamburgers!
