Genoa Welcomes New Club for 2019-2020
Fall of 2019 marked the beginning of a new club for Genoa High School. Our Comets are now part of the ever-growing Esports Ohio league.
Esports are video games where students compete against other schools in head-to-head action. Esports is a growing phenomenon in Ohio, The United States, and the world. Matches and tournaments are held where thousands of players from across the globe compete for championships. According to the statistics web site Statista.com, last year’s final match for the game League of Legends garnered almost 100,000,000 unique viewers.
Genoa students compete again teams from across the state without every leaving our school. Comets are currently competing in three different games, each playing on a different afternoon of the week. The games include League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League.
Opponents range from regional schools such as Ottawa Hills and Northwood to schools around the state including Liberty Center, New London, Jackson City, and Cleveland.
Currently, Genoa’s Esports club has approximately 10 students, but all are welcome! Games and practices are held Monday - Wednesday after school in the tech office across from the middle school library. Go, Comets, Go!

The documentary is co-produced by CET in Cincinnati, ideastream in Cleveland, and WOSU in Columbus and premiered on PBS on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Click the link above to view the video or visit the I Build America - Ohio website to learn more.
