The Most Wonderful Time of Year

The holiday season is among us. If your December is anything like mine, it is filled with the hustle and bustle of holiday parties, family gatherings, time with friends, shopping, winter sports, and oh so much more! This is one of my most favorite times of the year.

I want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Winn and our entire Cold Spring community for your generous donations for our Helping Hands program. This just demonstrates how giving our community is and I am so proud to be a part of it.

On behalf of the Cold Spring staff, we wish our community love, light, and blessings this holiday season.

Your Story Matters Program

MCPS is excited to be hosting the second “Your Story Matters” program, focusing on mental health in communities of color. This event will be held on Tuesday, December 6, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Richard Montgomery High School. It will open with light fare and information tables set up on Richard Montgomery’s Main Street, and then the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Organizers have invited parents, students, mental health professionals, and community partners to participate in panel discussions and present interactive workshops to discuss mental health issues facing our teens and the stigma of such issues in various communities. To learn more about this event, check out the flyer here.

December Principal Coffee

This month our Coffee & Conversation topic will be on tiered layers of support for students not yet meeting benchmarks for literacy and/or mathematics. We will share the various interventions we offer in both subject areas and the criteria for receiving those interventions. We will also share information on 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and how both of these work to support student learning. We look forward to engaging with you and answering any questions you may have regarding this topic.

We LOVE our Volunteers!

Montgomery County Public Schools requires school volunteers and partnership agencies to complete

certain compliance measures in order to volunteer within our school district.

● Online Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training via their myMCPS Classroom/Canvas

account

● Background check (dependent upon the type of volunteer service, per the Volunteers regulation

and FAQ)

● COVID-19 Vaccination Attestation - Beginning September 20, 2021, volunteers will be required to

upload their Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination to remain on the volunteer roster.

Please review the Volunteer/Contractor Vaccination Attestation Update for details on this process.

Building entrance is not allowed unless your name is listed on the MCPS approved Volunteer List.

Please do not bring your documents to the main office and ask for entrance. These documents are to be

uploaded for MCPS to approve and update the Volunteer list daily.

Are You Interested in Supporting Lunch & Recess?

Lunch and recess is a time where our students can enjoy social conversation and play. This is the one part of their day where there is a bit less structure and they can relax. We would love to have your support if you are available during this time.

If you would like to volunteer at lunch, recess, or both times, please head to the main office and sign in. You will need your driver's license or photo ID to get a visitor sticker. You will need to wear the sticker while you are volunteering.

The below link is our lunch and recess schedule for the year. Again, we welcome your support!

Travel Plans?

We have had many families traveling this year for many different reasons. Please understand it is not our teachers responsibility to provide classwork for the time your student will be away. Many of our teachers update their Canvas courses and provide homework weekly, which can be utilized during your time away. Our teachers will be working with your child upon their return to school to catch them up on anything missed.
