Message From the Principal
Happy Friday Titans,
We fully embrace shared governance at Elkins Pointe. Today the Elkins Pointe School Governance Council (SGC) met to discuss the plans and the budget for the 2019-2020 school year. Partnering with our parents, teachers/staff and the community is the best way to commit to student success.
It is time for parents and teachers to declare their candidacy to run for a seat on the School Governance Council. The purpose of the SGC is to work together to fulfill the Elkins Pointe mission to educate "Smart, Happy, and Connected" students so they are able to learn to their fullest potential. The SGC is composed of elected and appointed officials:
- Three (3) parent elected positions
- Two (2) teacher elected positions
- Two (2) appointed staff members
- Two (2) appointed community members
- One principal of the school
Meetings are held once a month, in the morning. The majority of our members hold full-time jobs. Members discuss, implement, and vote on items pertaining to the Elkins Pointe Middle School Plan 2020. Our strategic plan aligns with the FCS Strategic Plan 2022. Both plans are divided into four pillars: 1) Student Achievement 2) People and Culture 3) Community Collaboration 4) Fiscal Responsibility. Each pillar is a way for the school to identify initiatives and measure the outcomes. Some of the duties of the SGC include Requests for Waivers of Flexibility, i.e. teacher workdays for Professional Development and expenditures of SEED funds for use within the school and the classroom.
It is time for the Elkins Pointe SGC to seek a new parent member and a new teacher member. Our Graduation Coach, Mr. James Tongue, and Parent-Elect, Mrs. Kathleen Carpenter, will be rolling off the board in May. I thank them for their service and I hope their commitment to our students will inspire our parents and teachers to take a chance and run for the council.
I would like to ask you, "Would you like to make a difference at our school?" "Would you like to use your voice, time, and heart to be part of the shared governance affecting students, teachers, and our community?" If you can answer "Yes" to these questions, please take a moment to declare your candidacy for the Elkins Pointe SGC. Candidate declarations are due by February 20th.

It is a pleasure to work with the dedicated members of our SGC. I look forward to a robust election with many candidates. There can never be enough people who are willing to show our Titans that they are worth it!

Upcoming SGC Elections
(Links for declaration form will be available from February 4th – February 20th)
Elkins Pointe will be electing representatives to serve on the School Governance Council. We will be electing parent/guardian positions and teacher positions for our spring election. Our School Governance Council has a leadership role in the governance of the school. The Council works with the principal in setting the long-term vision and strategy for the school. They are responsible for approving the school's strategic plan and budget recommendations, as well as designing innovative solutions to increase academic achievement and meet the unique needs of our school community.
Elections for the parent/guardian and teacher positions on the School Governance Council will be held March 11th – March 18th. Candidates interested in running for an elected position on the Council must complete a candidate declaration form and submit by February 20th.
Candidate forms may be submitted electronically or by mail (get a copy of the form from the school's front office and follow mailing instructions on the back of the form).

Scoliosis Screening - 2/20
Attention Elkins Pointe Parents: WE NEED VOLUNTEERS for the Scoliosis Screening event on Friday, February 20th, from 12 noon - 3:30 pm. Volunteers must be Scoliosis Screening Trained. This is a really important event because between the ages of 11-14 is the prime period of identification for scoliosis of the spine, and early detection and early treatment is the key to reversing scoliosis so it is not a life-long problem.
If you can sign up as a volunteer, we will feed you lunch, snacks, and coffee on the day of the screening. For those that were certified through training last year, you do not have to retake the training course. Please, direct questions to Jennifer Rodman: jcrodman@yahoo.com.

Box Tops - 2/22
BOX TOPS DEADLINE IS APPROACHING!
All Box Tops must be turned in by February 22, 2019, for the spring submission. Please carefully trim your box tops and ensure that all submitted box tops have expiration dates on or after March 1, 2019, Box Tops expiring prior to this date cannot be submitted. Place all Box Tops in a baggie and turn them into the front office collection box or to Mrs. Streeter’s Room.
Box Tops can be clipped from participating products. See the full list of products here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/participating-products.
You can also earn Box Tops for Elkins Pointe via a free app that you can download in the App Store. Just download the app and check for offers each time you shop. After checkout, simply redeem the offer in the app and scan your receipt. Points from the offers are added to our online account within hours of your purchase (PLUS you can still clip the Box Tops on these products and submit them for the general submission).
Each Box Top is worth .10 - schools can earn thousands of dollars through this program! Our goal was to raise at least $400 this year through this program, although the fall submission only earned us $100, so we really need your help in meeting our goal. Note that our feeder elementary schools raise $1,000 or more at their schools, so please think of sending some of your Box Tops to Elkins!
