EMANCIPATION OF SLAVES IN THE SOUTH
New York Times
A new purpose to the war!
Abraham released the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863 and its said to free all slaves in the Confederate states. The confederate states are in the south and are what we are fighting against. It's been three years since this deadly, devastating war has began, with no end in sight. This can hopefully help recruit some more men to the war to overcome our loses as the North. Lincoln also did this to give a greater purpose to the war.
THE PATH TOWARDS FREEDOM
Families reunite
Families separated from one another in the rough times of slavery and finally able to reunite after long times.
Many join the army
With the freeing of slaves in the South, many may end up joining the Union and fighting to defeat the Confederate army faster.
Confederate's more enraged
Of course, the Emancipation Proclamation has the south fairly upset due to the fact that they lost a majority of their slaves. This gives them the power to fight even harder.
More on the Proclamation
Lincoln's whole reasoning behind the Emancipation proclamation was to give the war a greater purpose. He also figured that he couldn't send African Americans back to Africa, and found a more reasonable way. At first, he wanted to maintain the union but now the purpose is different. Lincoln plans on taking this further, and taking it into the court system to pass as a law.
