From all of us here at WMS we wish you and your family a safe and relaxing holiday season.
We appreciate everyone's support this year in helping our students be successful. When we return to campus on January 4th we will have two weeks remaining in the semester. The semester exam schedule is below in the newsletter. As a reminder all students are required to take their semester exam on the day and time their exam is scheduled. No early exams will be administered. Any student who is not present for an exam will have a zero put in as a place holder until the exam has been taken.
We ask that you continue to monitor your students grades as we get closer to the end of the semester. Please encourage your student to attend tutorials and turn in all work assigned by their teachers.
We thank you again. Happy Holidays!
Two Early Release Days Added to the 2020-2021 District Calendar
The decision to add the half days to the calendar was made so that teachers have additional planning time to meet the academic needs of students, said Dr. Dana Barnes, executive director of educational, curriculum, and instructional services. The half days were strategically placed on Fridays so parents could coordinate work schedules and plan for their child’s time off more easily. Friday, February 12, 2021, comes before Presidents Day, a student holiday, on Monday, February 15, 2021. Friday, March 12, 2021, comes right before Spring Break, a student and staff break from March 15-19, 2021.
The half days for students will follow all other half-day schedules, with students being released three hours earlier than a full school day. All other dates on the 2020-2021 school calendar remain the same. Download the revised calendar now.
Spring Online State Assessments
Texas Legislature (House Bill 3906) requires TEA to transition to administer all State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests electronically. A fully electronic administration will level the playing field for student who need accommodations, expedite test results, reduce cost, and promote future innovations in assessments. Eagle Mountain-Saginaw will transition to online testing this spring 2021. In order to prepare your student with the online platform, the campus will train your student using a variety of tutorials, practice tests and participate in interim assessments for benchmarks. These learning opportunities will give your student experience with online tools. For more information regarding online STAAR testing, please visit the parent FAQ link here.
Reporting COVID Positive Cases Over Winter Break
On Thursday, the district emailed parents and staff our COVID-19 Winter Break Protocols and Safety Tips. Please take a moment to review those so you know what to expect of us regarding contact tracing and notifications. Remember that it is very important that you continue to report student or staff positive cases during the break. This allows us to notify those who may be close contacts, so they can prevent exposure to their family and friends over the holidays. EMS ISD provides an online reporting form through our district Let’s Talk system on the website that should be used anytime school is not open. Once a report is received through Let’s Talk, you will be contacted by district staff with additional instructions. Thank you for your assistance in controlling community spread of COVID-19.
