Hello from the principal's desk!
Nov 29, 2017
Hi all! We are back in action post Thanksgiving break. I hope you had a lovely time with family and friends, and had some delicious food. I certainly did!
We have a few important events coming up here between now and the Winter Break. Please look below at our calendar of events to make sure you can come to some or all of them! Winter Craft Night is next Friday, Dec 15th at 6:15 in the MPR. We are actually looking for a few more families to run craft tables at our Winter Craft Night. It is an easy gig, just help families get started on a craft project that we will design and get supplies for. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE volunteer your husband or wife or friend or older son/daughter to organize one of these tables. Email Mr. Woodward, jwoodward@alameda.k12.ca.us and let me know you will help out. We will also have a potluck and cookie exchange, and it is the same night as the last night of the Book Fair. This is one of those traditions that we've had here at Ruby Bridges since it opened 11 years ago. Let's continue to show that we have the parent volunteers to pull off community events like this.
In other news, we are short again for our lunch supervisors. We have lost two wonderful people over the last couple of weeks and need a few more good souls. I would love someone who could just organize a basketball game for two hours each day at lunch. The job is wonderful in that you are interacting with all of our kids on the recess yard. Come on, give us a few of your hours. Again, email me if interested.
We have the Fun-A-Thon this Saturday, Dec 2nd from 9:30 - 12:00. This is a major fundraiser for our school, and is SUPER fun for the kids! We are charging for non-Ruby Bridges kids, so please come with a few bucks to throw into the jar if bringing additional kids to the event. Please make sure you come out and have fun with us!
Lastly, I wanted to mention that ALL families from Kinder through third have access to RAZ kids, both at school and at home. RAZ kids is an online library of leveled books that will first read the book to you, then you read it, then last you answer some questions about the book. This website is an effective and engaging way to learn to read. The books are high interest, and are JUST RIGHT for each child. Please see your teacher if you have any questions.
I hope you had a good conference with your teachers. They have been staying late and working hard to prepare for all of these meetings. Consider sending them an extra special thank you for all the time and energy they are putting into your kids!
With gratitude,
Jesse Woodward

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming!!!
Winter Book Fair is coming Monday December 11 – Friday December 15th
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.
Remember, all purchases benefit our school. See you at the Book Fair!
Hour of Code coming next week
STEAM Studio
Hello RB Community. We are still in need of some more basic LEGOS (used ones are fine!) and some Cleaning Wipes for tables, if you are able. Please drop them off in the office or bring them by the Studio, room 401! Also, I have had many families join me on REMIND to receive updates about all things STEAM. If you want to join to see your child’s grade level STEAM projects, text the number 81010 from your cell phone, then text the message below that goes with your child’s grade level:
@rbsteamk
@rbsteam1
@rbsteam2
@rbsteam3
@rbsteam4
@rbsteam5
@rbpstk
PS & TK families, please see the new code added at the bottom of the list for your classes. I will share photos and updates about the activities we do in each grade level. All photos will respect the photo releases that you signed at the beginning of the school year. Hope to see you on there!
