Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
This first marking period has been a time for our teachers to build relationships with our students and to learn more about the way each student learns. The first marking period is also a time where our students acclimate themselves to their classroom routines and settle into their own learning habits.
As we end our first marking period, teachers spend valuable time assessing students' growth and any areas that may still need instructional support. As a Leader in Me school we are working on empowering our students to be able to identify their own strengths and areas of needed growth. Students are learning to track their own data and are keeping data in Leadership Binders. We will continue to help our students learn to identify their strengths and areas of needed growth. We encourage you to ask your own child(ren) if they can share with you their strengths and growth areas.
Friday, November 4th-- there will be NO SCHOOL for our students. Teachers will have time for professional learning and will work on completing report cards for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for November 9th and 10th. Please be sure to confirm your time with your child's teacher this week! It is a good idea to have any questions prepared ahead of time since our time slots are very tight.
Our month of November, brings Habit #2 as our focus. Habit #2, Begin with the End in Mind, focusses on having a vision for your goals and creating action steps to reach your goal. For our students, we share Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind means to have a plan. As a family, you can use Habit #2 to bring a focus to reaching simple goals, such as getting to school on time, or getting to bed on time or even finding ways to increase family dinners each week.
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw
Sunset Lake Elementary Principal
