UBAM TRACTOR'S NEWSLETTER 6-2015
getting kids excited about reading and serving others
Serving others is sharing our business opportunity with others
As many of you know , my triplets and I leave for Ireland/London this coming Wednesday for an the Incentive trip with Usborne. My husband and older children will join us later n the week. There 250 participants on this trip this year and there are many first time earners.
UBAM has had a huge impact in each of these individuals this past year. As a team with UBAM we have promoted 155 new team leaders this past Fall. This coming Fall season I am sure we will double that if not triple it. #changing lives
It is hard to know exactly how Usborne is going to change a life. You met someone who is working full-time and you think, they don't have time for this business. You met someone who is going to have a baby soon and you think they can't do this business until after the baby. You met someone whose husband makes lots of money and you think they don't need a business. I do the same thing sometimes!!!
Well, did you know that their are lots of FULL-time workers who earned the Ireland trip/promoted to team leader this year, just had a baby and who don't need extra money but wanted to a make a difference in their community. we have to be careful- "including me" to not Pre-Judge. we just have to get comfortable hearing - NO, and not take it personally. We just need to offer it and let everyone make their own decisions.
There are so many reasons that someone might want to do this business, that we really don't know if it may fit in their plans or until we ask them.
How do we ask them? this is what I have found to be the most comfortable for me. " this may be just the craziest idea ever but I just love the way you _______________ care about literacy? interact with your children? organize events? (why do you think they would be good, if you know them at all) and I was wondering if you had ever thought about doing a business along side your family to make a ____________? make some extra money? earn a cruise? make a difference in literacy? (it depends on the reason you think they might want to do this) If you are interested I could email you some information to look over? what do you think?
Our Team Goal this month is to add 20 new team members to our team. Currently, we have add 7 (and it is only the 10th of the month) so are right on target to reach our goal. The mere presence of books profoundly impacts a child’s academic achievement. From a study published in Research in Social Stratification and Mobility comes the astonishing information that just the mere presence of books profoundly impacts a child’s academic achievement. Conducted over 20 years, the study by Evans, Kelley, Sikorac, and Treimand (2010) surveyed more than 70,000 people across 27 countries and found the following:
Children raised in homes with more than 500 books spent three years longer in school than children whose parents had only a few books. According to the abstract, growing up in a household with 500 or more books is “as great an advantage as having university-educated rather than unschooled parents, and twice the advantage of having a professional rather than an unskilled father.”
The results suggest that children whose parents have lots of books are nearly 20% more likely to finish college. Indeed, as a predictor of college graduation, books in the home trump even the education of the parents. And lest you think that only the privileged with the means to purchase books reap the benefit of books: not so. Even a child who hails from a home with 25 books will, on average, complete two more years of school than would a child from a home without any books at all.
Regardless of how many books the family already has, each addition to a home library helps the children get a little further in school. But the gains are not equally great across the entire range; rather, they are larger at the bottom, far below the elite level, in getting children from modest families a little further along in the first few years of school. Moreover, having books in the home has a greater impact on children from the least educated families, not on children of the university-educated elite (Evans et al., 2010).
In general, the books help establish a reading or “scholarly culture” in the home that persists from generation to generation within families, largely independent of education and class. This creates a “taste for books” and promotes the skills and knowledge that fosters both literacy and numeracy and, thus, leads to lifelong academic advantages

OHPRA Tracking Contest- Special gift from me from Ireland
In the files section of the tractors facebook page is a script called Ohphra. Ohpra helps us remember to provide all our services to all our customers because we never know which one of them will met a need in their families. In the facebook page, there is also a tracker page, so you can keep track of who you talk to each week. Sometimes I feel like I have worked all day on my business but when i really look at it, I have "thought" about working all day but have not actually picked up the phone. It is amazing to me how quickly I can make my 5 contacts a day, when I schedule a time to sit down and call them. When I am done with my 5 for the day, I am DONE and OFF work. I don't have to think about my business anymore the rest of the day.
Congratulations to Kate Martin who is the only one who tracked all their contacts and turned them into me during my promotion last month. She earned a pack of NEW mini catalogs. This month, when you turn in your tracker sheet with at least 40 people you have connected with and asked about hostess a party/bookfair/reachforthestars/cardsforacause or joining our team I will bring you a special surprise from our trip. if you already have parties booked, and you have personally connected with your hostess that also counts as one of the 40. You must email me your list or (take a picture with your phone) or attach spreadsheet) by July 23rd when our trip in Ireland begins.
*if you are not on facebook and need access to those files please reply back to this email and I will send them to you.
