MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
The week from 27th May to 3rd June, marks two important events in our year as Australians – National Sorry Day and the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.
National Sorry Day is a time where we apologise for the poor choices of past generations in the treatment of Aboriginal people. It is an opportunity for us to appreciate the contributions of the first Australians and to acknowledge that decisions of the past have had great negative effects on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Extending this apology is an important step in the process of reconciliation.
National Reconciliation Week commences on the day following National Sorry Day and is held between two significant milestones in Australia’s history, May 27 and June 3. May 27 is the anniversary of the 1967 referendum in which more than 90 percent of Australians voted ‘Yes’ to count Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the census and give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples the right to vote and have a say in the government of the country. June 3 marks the anniversary of the historic 1992 Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised native title – the recognition that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights over their lands did survive British colonisation.
It is important for us to understand that today we celebrate our heritage, acknowledge and honour original Australians and work together to appreciate and respect each person equally. The 2021 theme for National Reconciliation Week is “More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.”
Thursday and Friday this week are pupil free days. Staff will be involved in professional development specifically looking at Growth Coaching. All staff will be undertaking coaching training so that we can help identify and set goals and develop clear strategies on how to achieve these in a collaborative and trusting environment. Our greatest asset at Whitford CPS is our people and spending time developing quality targeted conversations that will benefit our students and staff is a key focus of the two days.
The following COVID procedures are currently in place when coming onto school grounds, visiting classrooms and for school events:
- Sign in using the SafeWA App when entering school grounds;
- Practice 1.5 metre physical distancing between adults where practicable;
- Sanitise utilising one of the installed dispensers located around the school;
- Indoor venues will follow the 2 square meter capacity rule for adults.
This weekend is a long weekend. We hope you enjoy the family time together and look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday.
Best wishes and God bless

Lifelink, with help from both primary and secondary Catholic schools in Perth, has now raised over two million dollars since it began in 1994. These funds have gone directly to organisations like The Shopfront and the Emmaus Community, which both help Perth citizens who are in need of assistance financially and socially.
Thanks to all of our students and families who made a gold coin donation on Tuesday and wore red for LifeLink. Your support for LifeLink has been fantastic and our efforts really do make a difference to people in our local community.
Our Christian ministry have represented our school by producing a video for Lifelink which features the numerous agencies and how they serve like Jesus did.
Thank you to all our students for their kind donations for LifeLink Day. The total raised was $842.60.
