From the desk of Mrs. Anderson
What a great start to the school year! We have several new staff members and students who have joined the Gold Academy family! Welcome to all of them!
This is an exciting time since we now have iPads in each of our student’s hands in grades 1st-6th. These devices will help to support our specific instructional goals connected to all content areas of Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
As we enter the 2018-2019 school year with exciting new opportunities for our students, one thing does remain the same and that is our Mission Statement - we prioritize Student Learning, Safety, and Customer Service each and every day.
The Gold Academy is Decatur Proud!

Morning Car Rider Routine
For the safety of our students, please follow these guidelines in the morning when dropping off students at the front of the building.
1. Doors unlock at 7:40 a.m. Please do not leave children unsupervised before this time.
2. Students should get out of the vehicle on the right side, if possible, always between drop-off zone signs.
3. If you choose to park in the lot, please walk your child to the staff member on duty, in order to get across the road safely.
4. Do not drop students off in the parking lot area.
*Thank you for your diligence in keeping your students safe!
Transportation Changes
Dismissal
Children are to be picked up at the designated area of the building at dismissal. Students will not be allowed to cross between cars. Please follow the handout on student car riders. Our children must be able to enter their cars safely, and then the cars will be able to leave quickly once they have their passengers. For safety reasons, if your child’s dismissal routine will be changed, you must send a note in with them that morning. Your child either rides his or her assigned bus or becomes a car rider/walker. The following are two examples of an acceptable dismissal change:
• Your child normally rides the bus, but today he/she will be picked up by car.
• Your child normally walks home, but today he/she will be riding the bus. For security reasons, it is the expectation of the MSD of Decatur Township that any/all parents will provide PHOTO identification when picking up your child from school.

Textbook and iPad Fees
It’s that time of year again! Textbooks and IPads are very important tools in each student’s daily achievement. We need to have all textbook rental (Grades 1& 2 –$150.00, Grades 3-6 - $185.00) paid within the first thirty days of the school year. When sending textbook rental with students please be sure to enclose it in an envelope and write the child’s name, teacher’s name and “Book Rental” on the front. The district now has an EFunds account available for you to make payments online. You may do so by visiting our township home page at www.decaturproud.org The EFunds online payment is a link that can be found under “Families”, then “E Billing”. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. We can also accept credit card payments over the phone by calling the office at 317-856-0400, extension 8204.
Popcorn Fridays are back!
The Gold Academy will be selling popcorn each Friday of the month. Students can bring in 50¢ on Friday mornings and their popcorn will be delivered to their classrooms. The sales will begin today. This is a fundraising project to help support the needs of our school!
We also need volunteers to help with this activity. If you are interested you will need to fill out a Volunteer Registration Form. Thank you so much for your participation and help with our school functions.
