Wiggin Street Parent Update

November 4, 2022

Better Together

Families,

This week started out with our Fall Harvest Parade and Parties, and it was so nice to be able to share costumes with all of you! Our teacher theme was Nursery Rhymes, and I was dressed as Mother Goose. It was fun for all of us to share the Nursery Rhyme that inspired our costumes with the kids!

Our 3rd Grade students worked hard on their fall Ohio State Tests this week, and I'm so proud of the other students too for respecting others by being quiet in the hallways. We also talked a lot about being feeling detectives this week to have empathy and compassion for others.

There were also lots of other events to check out in this update. We had our first Chess Club meeting for grades 3-5, and over 50 students participated. The 5 Kenyon students were amazing and thankful for us starting the club. They get as much from the collaboration as our students.

Hope you all have a healthy and restful weekend!

Best wishes,

Christy Grandstaff

WINTER WEATHER

Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.

VETERANS DAY

We will be having a flag ceremony, weather permitting, with our students on the morning of November 15th in observance of Veterans Day. We would like to invite any Veterans that are available to attend, so you may be recognized. The flag ceremony will take place on the front lawn around 9:10 am and is the same day as our "Donuts with Grownups" that begins at 8:00 am, so you are welcome to observe the ceremony which will include the flag raising, Pledge of Allegiance, poems, and the National Anthem.

Food for the Hungry

Wiggin Street will be participating in the annual Food for the Hungry drive from November 14-18. Each class will have a collection box. Students can contribute non-perishable food or monetary donations.

Playground Painting Phase 1

Thanks so much to Mr. Evans for organizing our first phase of the playground painting and to all the volunteers that helped in the painting! The kids are loving the new space that includes 4-Square, 2-Square, Slam ball, Half-court basketball and shooting drill areas, sensory walks, and a path that is a mile long when traveled 5 times.

Richard Cowdrey- Visiting Author/Illustrator

We are excited to share that Richard Cowdrey, bestselling author and illustrator of the Fiona the Hippo series and Gambier resident, will be visiting all of MVCSD Elementary Schools during the month of December!

The Fiona book series is based on the beloved hippo born at the Cincinnati Zoo. Cowdrey's children's books "Bad Dog, Marley" and "A Very Marley Christmas" also made him a New York Times No. 1 Bestselling illustrator.

He will visit Wiggin Street on December 8th, and the pre-order books are planned to arrive in time for the visit.

Lost and Found

Fall has arrived! Please remind your student to get their sweatshirts and jackets from lost and found. You can also submit this form to let us know what you are looking for, and we will do our best to get it to your child.

Remember that it is helpful to label all jackets, lunchboxes, bookbags, etc.

There is a lot more in lost and found than pictured. It's overflowing! Donations will be made over winter break, so please remind your child to check out the Lost and Found.
