Strength. Determination. Knowledge.
Happy Thursday!
Dear Families,
What a historic week it has been!
We hope you were able to celebrate MLK Jr. and talk with your students about the impactful life and vision Dr. King led! There is still so much work to be done, that is certain. Amanda Gorman spoke beautifully to this work in her inauguration poem "The Hills We Climb." If you haven't yet viewed it, I urge you to listen to her poem here. Ms. Gorman, a young Black woman, became the youngest poet in history to deliver a poem during a presidential inauguration, and what a beautiful poem it is!
Of course, during this presidential inauguration, our country made even more history with the induction of Kamala Harris as our very first Black Vice President, first South Asian Vice President, and first female Vice President! Madam Vice President told reporters that her mom would've said to her, "Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last." Regardless of anyone's individual political beliefs, for our children to have an example of themselves in our country's highest ranking body is truly a vital and remarkable thing. I only hope continued change and further unity is in our country's future!
As a reminder, next week is School Choice Week! Help us celebrate with the following activities:
- Send us a short video of why you chose and continue to choose GHA as your School of Choice!
- Post a testimonial with your experience with us on social media. Use the hashtags #SchoolChoiceWeek and #GHA2021.
- During School Choice Week, (January 24th-30th) encourage your scholar to wear YELLOW! Students who wear yellow may dress down in jeans!
We are working on some special activities to celebrate Black History Month as well! Look for those in next week's newsletter.
Yours in Education,
Tia

Laptop Care and Tips
All of our scholars have received devices for virtual learning. Below are a few tips to ensure the technology devices are not accidentally damaged or lost.
- Ensure the case remains on the iPad or Chromebook.
- Ensure food and drinks are not around the technology devices.
- Ensure scholars are stationary when using the iPad or Chromebook.
- Monitor data usage. (Make sure hotspots are turned off and disconnected when not being used for school work.)
- When lessons have concluded for the day, ensure the scholar places the device in the same location each day.
- Ensure the technology devices are plugged into the charger at the end of the day in order for the scholars to have a fully charged device for the next school day.
