Mrs. Lomazov's 3rd Grade Happenings

January 25 - 29

Reading...

In reading workshop this week we continue reading informational text. This week we focused on supporting the main idea with key details. We also noticed new information while reading our non fiction books and made jots with the new information.

Continue reading at home and filling out the reading log.

Writing...

Our young authors continue to work on their informational writing pieces.

Math…

Our young mathematicians continue working with multiplication.

It is a 2nd grade expectation that students should be able to answer 60 addition facts in 5 minutes? The same goes for subtraction facts. We took an assessments this week (results are coming home Monday) and most students were not able to meet those expectations. By the end of 3rd grade they should be able to answer all multiplication facts up to 10 x 10. There are a great deal of websites that practice math facts, but there is nothing better than old fashioned flash cards with mom or dad. If you have any questions about simple, quick FUN ways to practice those skills, please ask!

Science...

Our young scientists discussed renewable resources, reusable resources and nonrenewable resources. Ask your scientist to give you an example of each and tell you want each one means!

Please & Thank you...

Thank you to those that brought in snacks to share and disinfecting wipes. We are still low on extra snacks as well as disinfecting wipes. If you are able to send some in it will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you to Mrs. Paulson for planning the Valentine's Day party! There are still some items on signup genius that haven't been filled yet!

Miscellaneous...

The new learning feedback document will be coming home on Wednesday, February 10.

The 3rd grade students at AE have been selected to have Spanish instruction added to our curriculum! Just like all K-2 students we will now received Spanish for 30 minutes once a week. This will replace our Eagle Time program, and for our classroom will be held from 11:15 - 11:45 each Friday. This is a wonderful opportunity as all research shows that the brain is more receptive to acquiring a new language the younger it is presented!
