He conveyed and expanded on the ideas and techniques of his teacher socrates. The academy he founded was by some account. The worlds first university in which he trained his first students, philosopher Artistole. He was educated in philosophy, poetry, gymnastics by distinguished Athenian teacher.

Plato should win as a man of the Mediterranean because he is one of the most important figures of the ancient Greek world. His work lived for 2,400 years. He was quick of mind and modesty. Aristotles Politics and Plato's Republic are still much read in political science/ political philosophy classes today which is a good example of the lasting influence of the Greeks. He stands at the foundation of the humanist tradition and who's work has inspired every development in tradition in the 2,300 years since his death.
