We just wrapped up our second PRIDE assembly of that year that focused on respect. I am very proud of our students who earned an award, in addition to our staff members Mrs. Rothmeyer and Mrs. Walstrum, who both received staff awards in recognition of their hard work and dedication to our students.
Students enjoyed Halloween activities and parties. It was refreshing to have parents back in the building and providing support to our teachers. Lots of smiles and great costumes! We are excited to "roar" into the second quarter!
Front Office Dispatch
Prepare for the cold weather and make sure the kids have a coat. If they don't have a coat and it's below 32 degrees they will not be allowed outside.
Please keep in mind that our building opens at 8am (9am on late start days). There is no supervision for students who are dropped off prior to the building opening.
Please check fees in Skyward. If you have any questions or issues, contact Jennifer Grant (jennifer.grant@usd469.net).
Counselor's Corner
Hello families!
We have been learning about Bystander Power and how important it is to report bullying to a trusted adult during our counseling lessons. Ask your child about how our school prevents bullying and what they will do if they experience bullying in our school.
Kindness Club had our second meeting of the year for both 4th and 5th grade last week. I am very excited about the enthusiasm and great ideas these students have had already! This week Kindness Club is sponsoring a food drive for our Lansing USD 469 District Food Bank. We will be collecting non-perishable food November 2-9th. Details about our food drive will be sent by email soon! If your child has expressed an interest in Kindness Club, make sure that you've filled out the google permission form. https://forms.gle/GfGaGsvf9JwgRRER7
Next week we have Russ Tuttle with the Be Alert Internet Safety program coming to our district! There will be a community/adult only presentation on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:00 pm in the District Auditorium at LMS. Thursday we will have a student presentation at school. More information will be sent out by email. The adult presentation talks about risks on the internet and how to talk with your child to help keep them safe. Hope to see you all there!
Please reach out if you need assistance or have any questions.
Thank you!

Fourth Grade - Mrs. Gerling
The beginning of the second quarter, a bittersweet moment! We are all settled into the everyday routine of being in school, students know the expectations, we are able to embark on a journey of more in-depth learning! This quarter we have some very exciting new things to learn about starting back up with two digits by two-digit multiplication.
Along with this, we took a journey to all the planets in our solar system on Space Day! Our classrooms were transformed to outer space, rocket ship, helmet making, and even our very own moon pies! All fourth graders got to take this journey! Not only were we focused on math but we also learned about different accounts (first account or second account) with different information like the solar eclipse, the international astronomical unit and many more! We are now transitioning to area and perimeter! Our class is learning what it means to have a combined area so that we can build our haunted houses!
How animal characters change familiar stories, compare and contrast, and asking and answering questions are our main focus in this unit for reading. We have started our writing with the topic of making a jack o'lantern float! We worked really hard to make sure that we used our transition words correctly, put our steps in order, and found out that if we did not put our steps in a clear order then the whole thing would turn out rotten!!
Fifth Grade - Cara Slaven
We are officially into second quarter. Time is moving so fast, and I can’t believe we are almost to Halloween. It’s great getting to see all the students interact with each other as well as interacting with adults. Their personalities are shining through and it’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year. In Math we are moving right along with learning all the operations involving decimals. In Social Studies we are learning about Native Americans. In Reading we are strengthening all of those skills that make us great readers.
This past week fifth grade got to kick off around the field trips for the first time this year. Half of our fifth-grade classes have went to the Steamboat Arabia museum as well as the money museum. Students spent a couple days beforehand learning everything they could about the Steamboat museum. The students have had a blast. Students were able to use hands-on experiences to see what it was like for those that discovered the Steamboat Arabia. Students also got to see firsthand what it was like to work in a bank with money. Students even got to see what a brick of gold look like as well as tri lifted. The students have had a blast and I can’t wait for them to Field trip.

Morning Student Drop-off Procedures
LIS Parents, We want to ensure our students arrive at school safely. Please help us by reviewing our car drop off procedures.
Do not back up traffic by turning left from Ida. Cars have been swerving around backed up traffic and it is dangerous for everyone involved.
If you plan to sit in the car with your child, and not immediately drop off, pull forward to the end of the cones to prevent traffic backing up to Ida.
Circle around the parking lot back to Ida after dropping off.
Be patient. Saving thirty seconds of time is not worth endangering our students.
Reach out to school staff if there are issues you see that need to be addressed. We are always looking to make drop off more efficient and streamlined.
