Dyslexia Awareness Month
Week 4
Student's Perspective
For our final issue, I have gathered quotes from our Dyslexic students. The students were to anonymously write something they would like their teachers to know. Please read this with a students lens. Even though we may not intentionally practice some of these classroom habits, our students are extra hard on themselves and are self conscience of their performance.
"I like how my teacher is so guiding. She will help me when I need it. She will read the questions to me when I need [her to]. When she is talking to me in a calm voice that means she is trying to help. Thank you!"
"I don't like when we have to make up work."
"I don't like when other kids see my grades when we work on [corrections]."
"I like that you help me when I could not read and [with] my multiplication."
"I don't like showing my strategies for my answers, its hard to write."
"Pronouncing my words and spelling is really hard."
"I like that she adds a helpful word list and a tracker."
"I like when she brings me to the back table for extra help [in] reading [and when she] reads the questions for me on a test."
Thank you for working with our students and helping them become successful. Each and everyone of them expresses how much they enjoy their teachers. I hope you have found these newsletters beneficial. If you need anything I am always here to help.
