Dear Families,
As you know, LEARN sent an email on Friday announcing the decision to move to the “Hybrid Model” of instruction for the start of the year. Now that this decision has been made, we want to provide additional information on what this model will look like at our school and request your partnership to assist our planning.
We would also like to highlight additional calendar changes and to clarify some questions families had about the first week. Tuesday, September 8 is the first day of school; this is a "Cohort A Day." Thursday, September 10 is the first day of school for "Cohort B." Both of these days are early dismissal days (school ends at 12:30). This will help ease your child into school. Per our plan for hybrid learning, there is no in-person learning on Wednesday, September 9. Please contact clubhouse@carelot.net if you are in need of after-school childcare on those days.
Understanding the Hybrid Model
- This model allows a “phased-in” approach by having a significantly reduced number of students in the building at any time.
- Students with the last names A-L or A-M will report to school for in-person learning on Mondays and Tuesdays while students with the last names M-Z or N-Z will report to school on Thursdays and Fridays. The final determination of which cohort your child will be in is based on information from our survey, which many of you have already taken, and we are taking other factors and requests into consideration (link to survey: https://forms.gle/dP5dNFw3edmppVn3A) This survey will also help us understand other information we need to move forward in planning a safe and effective return.
- LEARN is awaiting guidance from the Department of Education regarding planning and delivery of supports and services for students with IEPs.
- When students are not in-person, they are expected to continue to engage in learning online consisting of synchronous and asynchronous activities.
- The attached document outlines the full LEARN Hybrid Model Draft in great detail. Here are the key points:
- General education teachers will plan and deliver weekly lessons and activities Monday to Friday. These lessons and activities will follow a normal school day schedule. Students will access these lessons and activities either in-person or online according to their cohort schedule.
- Online students will log into synchronous mini-lessons that are being simultaneously delivered to the students that are in-person. Students who are not able to access synchronous lessons will be able to access videos of those lessons at another time through Seesaw or Google Classroom.
- Additional guidance regarding delivery of specialized supports and services will follow guidance from the State Department of Education. Further details will be communicated soon.
Moving Forward
- We know that your plans and needs may change just as our plan may continue to evolve based on current data and guidance. Please answer the questions on the survey linked above as best you can based on your current thinking. While you may change your mind, please recognize that we will need some time to make an adjustment if you want to make a change.
- It is very important we understand your technology and access needs. We have made a very large purchase of devices and internet access equipment to assure that all students have school-issued devices and equitable access to the internet. Some of the devices may not arrive prior to the start of the year, so we will be prioritizing distribution to those who do not currently have their own devices.
We thank you for your ongoing collaboration and support. Please let us know if you have questions and we will continue to provide you with the most comprehensive information as quickly and clearly as we can.
