April 19, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
How about this weather? I know I’m looking forward to more sunny days in the future – hopefully soon! This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, and we will have a severe weather drill tomorrow at school. This drill is to practice what we would do if there were to be severe weather, such as a tornado.
Our annual Plant Relay, sponsored by our PTO, starts this week with kindergarten. Be sure to keep track of what’s happening with the Plant Relay by asking your child and checking out social media throughout the next few weeks. The Plant Relay is a fun, cooperative learning experience for our students that results in a beautiful prairie garden in the front of our school.
There are lots of fun events happening in our community. Be sure to check out the news below!

Jaime Nymann

Please help: Required iPad Update and Apple ID/Apple Classroom Sign-In Fix
Apple recently released an update (iOS 16.4+) which has alleviated a disruptive bug that causes student Apple IDs to sign out. This causes major disruptions including student data not being backed up and the inability to use Apple Classroom.
Please help students follow the steps provided here to resolve this issue:
- Update iPads to iOS 16.4 or higher. This can be done by going to Settings>General>Software Update.
- After the iPads are updated, or if they are already up to date, go to Settings. If you see a red icon under your name/iCloud account, tap on “Update Apple ID Settings” and sign back into the school Apple ID.
- Once signed back in, this message will go away.
If you have any questions, contact the help desk 763-600-5555, techsupport@district16.org.

Career Fair forges connections
Energy, volume and engagement were high at the second annual career fair on April 6 where 118 organizations connected with nearly 2,000 Spring Lake Park High School students to support career exploration and employment.
There were therapy dogs, robots, hair jewels, a basketball hoop, hammers, simulators, candy (so much candy) . . . and buzz. The Spring Lake Park High School auxiliary gym came alive as students wandered the aisles and engaged with employers and colleges to learn more about immediate job openings, summer opportunities and longer-term career paths.

TECHNOLOGY SPEAKER RECAP
Would you hand your kid a chainsaw without giving them safety instructions and supervision? Then why are we giving them media and technology without properly preparing them? This may be an extreme comparison, but a relevant one.
Over two dozen people attended the presentation by Alison Feigh, from Zero Abuse Project, who was hosted by WCSI PTO's Social/Emotional Wellness Committee a few weeks ago. With real life experience and examples, Alison led a discussion with parents on the concerns of kids having free reign with technology and social media. But this wasn't only a fear driven discussion. Parents were given practical tools to discuss safety with their kids.
What if... Tell me more... Who is in your safety net?
Parents left with plenty of resources and tools to guide their kids though the tricky and ever-changing technology landscape. We really enjoyed hosting Alison and the Zero Abuse Project and can't wait to have her back again! Please see the links below for several resources that were provided during our discussion as well as the SLP School District's site with iPad resources.
