It's a Marvelous Monday on a Tuesday at JSE!

Happy Tuesday JSE Families!

Hope everyone practiced the four R's this past weekend: REST, RELAX, REJUVENATE, and READ. The last but definitely not the least, READ, is one of the most important activities you can do each night with your child. Please have a family nightly routine in place that includes 15 minutes of reading. Your child can read to you, you can read to your child, or your child can read to him or herself. Just get them reading for you!

FOCUS on Reading:

Our computer labs are scheduled with 1st through 5th grade students doing their best on the 1st STAR reading assessment. The results will aide our teachers in developing targeted lessons to address the needs of each child. With the help of their teachers, students will create AR goals and begin eagerly working to meet those goals and reap the rewards. The assessment report will come home with your child shortly. This is a good gauge for you to see how your child is progressing as a reader. As always please ask your teacher if you have any questions.

Our Fifth Grade Kindergarten Reading Buddies program is underway. This is one of my favorite opportunities at JSE. I was fortunate to see the buddies link up for the first time. We are proud of our 5th graders! In the blink of an eye they became mentors, helping their buddy with their first literacy project. Every other Friday our buddies meet up to share their love for reading. There is so much joy in the room, it's hard to tell who looks forward to their time together more!

Notes from our Home School Advisor Mrs. Fields:

We are pleased to have our UTSC elementary schools participate in the Body Safety Program presented by Dunebrook of Michigan City again this year. Detailed information will be included in this week's Thursday Folder. There will be a parent information night at JSE on September 21st at 6pm and the student presentation will be September 24th. After you have had the opportunity to learn of this program, feel free to call us with any questions or concerns. "Children are our nation's great resource; let us all strive to protect them."

Spirit Day Fridays!

Join us in wearing your orange and green on Fridays to show our love for JSE. Our PTO is in the process of customizing this year's spirit wear and will soon be revealing this year's creative design! Our plan is to have spirit wear available for purchase in the main office year round.
