Don't forget to join our GRE Family Schoology Group! Access Code: N5VZ-VWQC-W7VVZ
Dear GRE Families,
Nothing says love like an Elementary Valentine's Day Party! A HUGE thank you to all our families that were able to join us and make these parties a special event for our students. All pictures from this newsletter and additional photos can be found in the GRE Families Group in Schoology. Be sure to check it out!
Last week PTO met to talk about upcoming events. We are in need of many new faces to step up and join the executive board of PTO. With redistricting, almost our entire current board will be families attending PRE next year. Now is the time to get involved to make sure that GRE continues to provide our students amazing experiences. If you have questions or want more information about how to get involved, please reach out to myself, Tara Shelby (Tara.shelby@gmail.com) or Heather Setmire (setmireishome@yahoo.com).
Here's to a GREat week at GRE!

News to Share
2. It was reported to me last week that some families are entering our arrival/dismissal loop in the exit. This has happened during arrival and dismissal and is occurring at the same time students are exiting or walking through the lot to get to or from school. Please follow correct traffic procedures. I understand it can be frustrating to wait in line but the line exists to keep our students safe. If we can all exercise patience and work together we can ensure that all of our students enter and exit school safely. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly.
3. Our first priority in meeting students' needs each day is ensuring their safety and well-being. As a reminder, we ask our entire community to help us in practicing a "see something, say something" mentality. While we encourage anyone with concerns to reach out to our school, Big Walnut also uses a 24/7 anonymous tip line to report any concerns via voice or text. To report a concern, call or text 1-844-SAFEROH (1-844-723-3764). Thank you for helping to promote our students' safety.
PreK and Kinder enrollment begins this Tuesday!
Special Spotlight: Art with Mrs. Duffy
Kindergarten:
Students are working on a new project: Moon’s Vacation. We have decided to send Moon to the big city. Students are finishing up painting beautiful night skies, using a value range of blues. They also have drawn their own city building on black construction paper. Soon, students will assemble their city, add decorations, and send Moon on a wonderful vacation!
1st Grade:
Students have been introduced to the Doodle for Google contest and have been given some time in class to work on them if they wish. Students will soon begin a new project! They will begin learning the basics of working with clay and clay tools to make a 3D form. Students will soon be making clay donuts!
2nd Grade:
Students have been introduced to the Doodle for Google contest and have been given some time in class to work on them if they wish. This has given the students who needed extra time to paint their Jasper Johns Name Painting a chance to fully finish. Students learning about Jasper Johns, value, texture in their project. They will soon begin making clay bowls and continue to experiment with texture!
3rd Grade:
Students have been introduced to the Doodle for Google contest and have been given some time in class to work on them if they wish. Students will soon begin a new project! They will begin learning about the art of stained glass and will have the chance to make their own glass-free versions.
4th Grade:
Students are finishing up their clay cupcakes and clay birds. Heizer, Carter, and the Split Class students are making clay cupcakes. Hilton and Restucci students are making clay birds. Once finished, it will take the clay several weeks to fully dry and be fired in the kiln. They will be able to glaze their creations in early March.
Mrs. Doran will soon return to school following her maternity leave and all of the students are anxiously awaiting! It has been wonderful working with the students at GRE, I hope all of them enjoyed learning about new materials and art processes, and look forward to what else awaits them in the Art Room!
Wishing everyone the best!
