Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
January 25, 2018
In a recent article from Pope Francis, he lists twelve ways to make the most out of 2018. I think they are wonderful ways to live life to the fullest and to reflect upon as we enter into Catholic Schools Week. Please share them with your children so we may all work together to make the world a better place.
- Build bridges, not walls.
- Let yourself be moved by suffering..and then do something.
- Don't be afraid to be ashamed of yourself and recognize when you've done wrong.
- Dream of love.
- Avoid attachment to riches.
- Pray daily for your health and that of your loved ones.
- Be strong in faith so as to overcome division.
- Work hard for your dignity and that of your family.
- Don't let yourself be robbed of hope.
- Remember that God never abandons us.
- Find happiness by creating harmony.
- Know that you are loved so that you can give love and forgiveness.
The following is the agenda for Community Homeroom which will be held tomorrow at 8:45 in the gym.
- Birthdays
- Principal's Choice
- Virtue of the Month
- First in Math
- Archbishop Wood Writing Contest Winner
- Uniform Preview - This will be an initial preview. The uniform choices will be on display all of Catholic Schools Week. A catalog of the choices and a link to cast your vote will be sent out in early February.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal

"Virtue of the Month"
The virtue for the month of January is perseverance. Perseverance pushes you to work through challenges. Having perseverance means when you are facing a challenge, you use your mind and body to overcome it. Perseverance means you are able to wait and work through difficulties even when you want to quit. If you see someone displaying the virtue of perseverance, fill out a virtue slip for them. The winners will be announced at our next Community Homeroom.
Healthy Hands/Healthy Heart
School Safety & Security
The safety of our students is our top priority. No visitor or volunteer may go to any area of the school without first signing in at the office and receiving a visitor’s badge. Visitors or volunteers are not permitted to go to a classroom to visit, confer with a teacher without an appointment, or visit any child in class, at lunch, or in the schoolyard. If parents wish to arrange a conference with a teacher or the principal, they should call the school office first.
