SECTIONAL MASS TOMORROW

Parents are invited to join us for the 2nd-5th Grade Sectional Mass, led by Ms. Solari's 3rd grade class, tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the ICCS Gym.

HELP WANTED

We are in need of substitute teachers to periodically cover classes when faculty members are sick or on personal leave. To apply, contact Dana Wimberly at the Office of Catholic School at (337) 433-9640, ext. 200. Fingerprinting and a background check are required, along with completion of the Safe and Sacred on-line training program. Substitutes are not required to work at all Diocesan schools, you may choose to only substitute at ICCS.

PTO MEETING, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26

Make plans now to attend the ICCS PTO Meeting on February 26, starting at 6 p.m. in the ICCS Gym. Details about the upcoming ICCS PTO Dinner Auction and NEW PTO Crawfish Sale Fundraiser will be discussed.


A special parent presentation will be offered following the PTO business portion of the meeting. Roy Petitfils will serve as guest speaker. His most recent book: Helping Teens with Stress, Anxiety, and Depression: A Field Guide for Catholic Parents, Pastors, and Youth Leaders is soon to be released.


Roy is an international speaker who uses humor, passion, clinical and life experience to help adults connect with teens and to help teens to know, understand and love themselves.


Roy is an internationally recognized expert in understanding and raising teenagers. He is a therapist at Pax Renewal Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. He holds a Masters in Mental Health and School Counseling from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.

AUCTION PACKETS

The 2019 "Art & Soul of ICCS" PTO Dinner Auction is scheduled for Friday, March 29, beginning at 6 p.m. in the ICCS Gym. Auction packets were sent home with students last week. Please check the packet for more details on event sponsorships, ticket and table purchases, silent and live auction item donations, program ad sales and much more!

The ICCS Girl Scout Troop 244 will be selling cookies at Sam's Club on Saturday, February 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and purchase your favorite Girl Scout cookies from the ICCS Troop!

CLASSROOM NEWS:

PHONICS FIRST ACTIVITY

This week, Mrs. Koenig's 1st Grade students used magic "E" wands to help change a word's short vowel sound to its long vowel sound. The special metal wands "dinged" when students touched the board. The class enjoyed this fun and interactive Phonics First activity!

A ROYAL VISIT TO 2ND GRADE

Floyd and Sharon Saltzman, former king and queen of Krewe des Amis, spoke to our 2nd grade students this week about the duties of being king and queen of a Mardi Gras krewe, as well as the Catholic traditions that go along with Twelfth Night and the Mardi Gras season. This special Mardi Gras visit was complete with bead throwing and king cake!


Our 2nd grade students also took a field trip to the Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu this week. A fun and educational time for all!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

ICCS 4th graders, Emma Foret & Jeanne Claire Breaux presented a special Valentine’s Day book talk and craft activity to Ms. House’s Kindergarten friends this week.

Kari Hankins, founder of Truth, Facts & Lies will be offering a special presentation on the potential dangers of social media, gaming and much more. This informative presentation will help parents be better informed about these important topics and to equip them to handle potentially dangerous situations.

PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF COLDS AND FLU


Parents and students are asked to help prevent the spread of highly contagious cold and flu germs here at school. The flu is typically spread through air or direct contact from one person to the next. To prevent the spread of cold and flu, please:

  • Blow your nose in a tissue and place in the trash can
  • Sneeze in your sleeve and not your hands
  • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated
  • When ill, students may return to school after they are fever free for a minimum of 24 hours
