Rules, Warm-up Routines, Fitness Testing Oh My!
We've had a great first 2 weeks in P.E. class going over rules, teaching our warm-up routines and getting ready for fitness testing! Our daily 7-8 minute warm-up routines are structured so that students can practice fitness test components regularly and incorporate fitness into each day.
Here is what our typical weekly warm-up schedule looks like:
- Mileage Mondays: 8 minute jog, followed by hamstring stretch
- Test Prep Tuesday: Students rotate through fitness test components for 45 seconds each: shuttle run, flexed arm hang, push-ups and curl-ups
- Cardio Choice Wednesday: Students can choose jump ropes, dribbling a basketball, or jogging for their warm-up activity
- Test Prep Thursday: Students rotate through fitness test components for 45 seconds each: shuttle run, flexed arm hang, push-ups and curl-ups
- Flex Friday: Teacher's choice and game days
3rd Graders in Action!
We've played a variety of throwing, tagging and parachute games along with practicing fitness test components these last 2 weeks. Take a look at some of the action!
August Birthdays!
Once every 4-5 weeks we have all the students with a birthday that month roll big foam dice in front of all 3 classes. The total number rolled by the birthday students, divided by the number of rollers, will be how much the grade jogs for warm-up. Then the birthday bunch chooses a game collaboratively!
