Please help spread the word. . . Kinder Registration for 23-24 school year is NOW open!

Step Up Visit to the Next Grade Level
Our little Leopards are preparing for the transition to the next grade level, and we have plans to help this change seem less daunting and more exciting! Our 1st grade students will attend South Prairie next year, so we are going to take them to visit South Prairie on Thursday, June 1st. Their classroom teacher will accompany them on this excursion. During this visit, they will get to meet the Principal and other staff, take a tour of the building, check out the cafeteria and playgrounds, and identify the similarities and differences between Liberty and South Prairie. Permission slips are required for students to attend this opportunity, so please contact your child's teacher if you need another copy.
Our Kinder students will soon become 1st graders. These students will have the opportunity to meet our 1st grade teaching team, and check out the 1st grade classrooms on Monday, June 5th. During this visit, our Kinder students will learn how Kindergarten and 1st grade are the same and how they are different. And, while the 1st grade teachers are sharing information about being a 1st grader, their students will go back and visit their Kindergarten teachers and classmates.
Both of these Step Up experiences are meaningful and very important in preparing students to be ready for next year. This year has been full of such wonderful experiences and opportunities, and we want to reassure all of our little Leopards that next year is going to be just as magical and memorable, and remind them they are ready to take this next step. ♥️
Lost and Found
With the recent change in weather, our lost and found is OVERFLOWING! We gave all students a chance to look at every piece of clothing at their lunch today. However, we find that most students don't really remember what their missing coat or sweatshirt looks like. Families are welcome to stop by at any time and check out the lost and found to locate any sweatshirts, jackets or coats. Here are a couple of pictures to let you appreciate our current inventory: 😉
Enjoy the long weekend!
Number of books still checked out =
Please return any library books at home as soon as possible!
Thank you to Misty Meadow Dairy for hosting our Kinders last week!
Last Day of School for 22-23
The last day of school is Thursday, June 8th. This is a 1/2 day of school and no lunch is served.
Dismissal times for this last day are:
- 11:15 am - family members picking up students at the main entrance
- 11:20 am - buses will begin to load; drop-off will be approx 4 hours earlier than normal
Please remember that the last day of school is very busy time. If you need to make any changes to your child's end of the day plan, please call the office early (503) 842-7501.
COVID-19 Updates
According to the Oregon Health Authority, individuals who test positive for COVID are no longer required to participate in a five-day isolation period. Instead, the recommendation will now be that infected individuals remain at home until they are fever free for at least 24 hours and any symptoms are improving.
And, effective June 17th, the COVID-19 vaccination for requirement for school employees and volunteers will be lifted.
Having Lunch with your Child (Reminder)
Besides providing critically important nutrition, and an opportunity for unstructured play, lunch and recess serve important social purposes. At lunch, students learn how to balance social interactions with meeting their physical needs (eating while visiting). And at recess, students learn how to navigate the social landscape through interactions with their same age peers. If you are joining your child for lunch here at school, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:
- Limit the lunch with your child to one time a week, so they can continue to build their skills in eating a complete meal while visiting.
- After lunch, give them a hug and tell them to have a great rest of the day, and then exit the building. Having an adult family member out on the playground at recess disrupts a child's ability to engage in interactions with peers that support building critically important social skills. Also, we teach our students that the adults on the playground are there to keep them safe, and having extra unknown adults at recess creates confusion and uncertainty for both students and supervising staff.
Our playground is available for community use after 3:15 pm every day, so if you want to access the playground with your child, please save it for after school is dismissed for the day. Thank you for understanding!
Want to Help in the Classroom or Serve as a Chaperone?
Did you notice how many field trips our Little Leopards get to participate in over the next six weeks? Many of these trips have a required number of chaperones who must attend to make this opportunity possible - we can't make these off-site learning days happen without the support from our amazing families. To be able to be considered as a chaperone, please make sure you have completed the Volunteer Paperwork and are on the District's approved volunteer list. It can take up to three weeks for all the paperwork to process, so it is important to plan ahead. Designation as an approved volunteer is good for 3 years, so you won't have to renew your eligibility until your child attends South Prairie!

Meal Card Lanyards - Reminder
Please continue to send your child's meal card lanyard with them to school daily. These meal cards make our service process much more efficient. If something has happened to your child's meal card, please let your child's teacher know so we can get them a new one.
Milk Only at Lunch
All meals are free to all students at Liberty. However, if a child is only taking a milk with their lunch that they brought from home, there is a 50¢ charge to their meal account.
If you would like your child to take a school milk with their home lunch, please make sure to have funds available on their meal account. Funds can be added to your child's meal account at our main office or via the online My Meal Time portal. Click here to check out this resource: MyMealTime
