Message from the Principal
Dear Central Road Families,
It was amazing to welcome back our 5th and 6th graders!
Can you believe that Halloween is just around the corner? This year, our Halloween celebrations will be district-wide for both in-person and virtual classrooms. In unity, we will have a spirit week to celebrate fall. Due to the current restrictions, we can not move forward with our traditional Halloween celebrations in the classrooms. Students are invited to dress up, with the following themes:
Monday, October 26th- Country/ Western Monday
Tuesday, October 27th- Team Tuesday
Wednesday, October 29th- Wacky Hair Wednesday
Thursday, October 29th- Throwback Thursday
Friday, October 30th- PJ Friday
Please see the attached flyers for additional information.
As we continue in-person learning, it is important that during arrival and dismissal we are all following social distancing guidelines and wearing masks. In the interest of safety, please do not congregate at Central Road when you are dropping off or picking up your students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
District 15 has put several safety measures in place, to ensure students are safe during our pandemic. In-person learners in grades K-4 have been integrating for music and physical education classes. Integration is a state law and requires school districts to have half of a general education classroom and half of a self-contained bilingual or special education classroom participate in specials together. At Central Road, there is one general education classroom in grades K-4 that is integrating with a bilingual classroom at the same grade level for music and P.E. The students have been divided into two groups, and attend specials with half of the general education students and half of the bilingual students. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with peers from their grade level. During our pandemic, we do keep students in their homeroom classroom to the greatest extent possible, but are also required to follow state mandates. If your child is participating in an integrated class, please know that we are disinfecting any shared space as well as following social distancing guidelines.
Picture day is this week on Thursday! We can’t wait to see the smiles behind the student’s masks! A flyer was sent home with your child, please purchase your child’s photos online.
A friendly reminder, to send a water bottle to school every day with your child. Our water fountains are off in the building. If your child forgets their water bottle, we do have water bottles available at school.
Let’s make it a great week!
Warmly,
Patti Van Winkle, Principal

Interstate Studio Safety Measures
We are sharing the following information on our protocols so you know exactly what to expect from Interstate as Fall Picture Day 2020 approaches.
Please know that the health and well-being of our schools, our employees and every
community is top priority, and we are doing everything we can to reduce the
spread of COVID-19.
Fall Picture Day
Our photography team has been updating procedures and preventive measures that
include, but are not limited to:
Sanitation of Photo Equipment- Cameras, equipment and stools will be sanitized between
every class or group.
Photographers
are required to wear face coverings.
Social Distancing- The distance between the camera and a student is 6 feet. Paper
tape will be used to mark 6 feet apart for the student lines.
No-touch Order Envelope Collection- We are working to be 100% paperless this year, with all ordering done safely online.
We will keep the same teams of photographers together, minimizing
their exposure to other photographers.
Additionally, we will continue to follow guidance from local authorities in each of the communities we work in regarding further developments. Your safety and peace of mind is important to us, and we hope this better informs you of the measures we have put in place.
Grab and Go Breakfast Program
District 15 Nutrition Services is happy to offer a take home breakfast program. All students will have the opportunity to pick up 5 days of Grab ‘N’ Go breakfast meals at no charge and bring it home on Monday afternoons. This convenient new program allows the student to eat breakfast at home each morning before school starts, making it easier for students to have the opportunity to start the day ready to learn.
Does my student have to take the Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast Bags? Participation is strictly voluntary.
How does Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast Bags work? Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast Bags will be available at all schools for your child to take home on Monday afternoons. It will contain (5) complete breakfast meals, along with a second bag of (5) cartons of white milks. Since the milk should be refrigerated as soon as possible, there is an option to decline the milk if the child is not going home directly from school.
What foods are served in Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast? Each bag will contain 5 Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast kits and will consist of a combination of the following:
Breakfast Bar & 100% Juice Box
Cereal Bowl, Graham Snack, & 100% Juice Box
Whole Grain PopTart, Graham Snack, & 100% Juice Box
A separate bag will be provided with (5) cartons of white milk
How much will Grab ‘N’ Go breakfast cost? The (5) Grab ‘N’ Go breakfast meals provided are free of charge to all students. USDA has approved a waiver which allows our district to provide healthy meal access to all children in the community ages 18 and younger for FREE! This is a federally funded program.
What are the benefits of Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast? With a Grab ‘N’ Go breakfast program, all students have the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast. Studies have shown that with breakfast: Students concentrate better and remember more of what they learn. Students perform better academically. Absenteeism and tardiness is decreased. Hunger-related nurse visits are reduced.
How does my child receive the Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast Bag? If you would like your child to receive the Take Home Grab ‘N’ Go Breakfast Bag, please have your child share this information with their teacher. Teachers will be asking students who would like to participate in this program. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about this breakfast program, you can contact Kristin Voigts, Director of Nutrition Services (847) 963-3929 or voigtsk@ccsd15.net.
