February is Black History Month
February marks the start of Black History Month, a time when we celebrate the contributions African Americans have made to this country and a time to reflect on the continued struggle for racial justice. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. The 2021 theme for Black History month is "Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity".

School Reopening: Due to to the number in Covid-19 cases in our area HESD will remain in distance learning. We do not have a dates yet on when we will be able to resume in-person learning. Please continue to look for SMS text messages from the district regarding when our schools can reopen safely.
Gratitude: I'd like to take a moment to express gratefulness for our students, parents, and staff. It has been a very unique and, at times, difficult school year so far. Thank you to our students and their perseverance, our parents for your support and our staff for all of the amazing things you do everyday!
