GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

ZOOM2GROOM FUNDRAISER: We are thankful for the generosity of Zoom2Groom offering a donation-based pet grooming service as a fundraiser for CV Theater Arts on Sunday, November 28, from 8am to 5pm. Please call ahead to reserve a time slot - there will be no walk-in appointments. See flyer below for details.


CV Falcon Ornaments: Purchase your CV Falcon ornament (2.75” round ceramic with inked logo) today! All proceeds will support the 2021-22 Aquatics program. Supplies are limited - only 100 handmade ornaments will be available this year. To purchase: Contact Melanie Burzynski (mmburz@gmail.com) with your name, phone and number of ornaments you would like to purchase. Then, send your check into CVHS (made payable to CVHS Aquatics Booster Club) to Coach Amber Dien’s classroom (5103). Ornaments will be available for pickup after December 5.


BOYS SWIM TEAM TRYOUTS: Boys swim team tryouts will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Please arrive at the pool after school (3:30) ready to swim time trials. You will be asked to swim all four strokes. The length of the tryout will be dependent on how many athletes try out. If you have any questions see Coach Sakonju in Room 2310.


WORLD HELLO DAY: An unofficial holiday celebrated in November by 180 countries to illustrate the importance of personal communication for preserving peace. On this day, people are encouraged to participate by simply greeting 10 people. Get out there and say "Hi!" Falcons. Join us at snack on the outdoor stage for a quick and easy competition. Prizes will be awarded!!


CV ROBOTICS SOCK DRIVE: CV Robotics is having a Sock Drive from Tuesday, November 2nd to November 30th. We are collecting new socks for any age and any size for those in need in the upcoming winter season. Socks must be new due to the current pandemic and for health - safety precautions. Students can also earn a community service hour for every 6 pairs of socks they donate (for example, this could be a single pack of 6 pairs). Donations will be collected in a box in Mr. Poole's room 1301 and students can fill in the sign-in sheet that will be there for community service hours. All donations will help care for those in need in our community!


AP INFORMATION: AP students, make sure that you have created an account on the AP Classroom website (https://www.collegeboard.org) and added your AP classes using the join code provided by your AP teachers. CVHS SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL: The Meeting minutes from October 12, 2021 CVHS School Site Council meeting can be found HERE. The next CVHS School Site Council meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2022. Please contact areinhard@gusd.net with any questions.


CVHS ELAC: The CVHS English Language Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for November 9, has been rescheduled for January 18, 2022, at 6:30 pm via Zoom. All EL parents will receive an email with the Zoom link for the meeting. The minutes from the October 5, 2021, CVHS English Language Advisory Committee Meeting can be found HERE. CVHS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please check out several opportunities for parents to get involved and volunteer at Crescenta Valley High School. There are lots of volunteering positions throughout the year. Remember all volunteers must be vaccinated or provide a negative Covid 19 test within 48 hours of volunteering and masks must be worn. If you are interested please fill out the VOLUNTEER FORM and follow the instructions on returning it.


Falcon Nation Spirit Shirts have arrived in the student store. If you purchased yours during registration please plan to pick it up this week at the special Spirit Window. If you need to purchase one, the cost is $10 with an ASB card, and $15 without.


CVHS HALL/RESTROOM PASS POLICY:

- All students out of class during class time MUST have a pass or a badge with them at all times.

- If a student does not have a class during a period in which they are out of class, they will be asked for a schedule: phone screenshot, student portal, etc.

- If a student is out of class without permission or without a pass, they will be escorted back to class and may be assigned a lunch detention or ATS Saturday School.

- All Student TAs must stay in the classroom to which they are assigned and must have a pass if they are outside of class. Always Do the Right Thing Falcons!


WE ARE LOOKING FOR MATH-LOVING STUDENTS for the AMC math test on November 16th. This is the first step in being part of a national math competition where you could compete on a national level. SCHOLASTIC BOWL TEAM: The Scholastic Bowl Team will be holding tryouts soon. If you are interested in competing for a spot on CV’s academic decathlon team, please sign up in Room 5310. Tryouts will be at lunch time on various days.


CV AUTOMOTIVE: At CV we have a brand new automotive club where car enthusiasts can come together and talk about cars. We’ll be mostly discussing how a car is put into production ranging from the invention and design to the engineering and manufacturing processes. In addition to that, we’ll also watch popular races and play car trivia games. We’re open to member suggestions on what else we should discuss during the year. Text @cvautom to 81010 if you are interested in becoming a member of the club, meetings are every other Friday at lunch in Mr. Kim’s room 2103.

COUNSELORS' CORNER

CURRENT JUNIORS: Female students interested in government and current events and who show strong leadership abilities should consider applying to Girls State. The week-long summer program sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary will be in June 2022. Selected students learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. Applications are available in the CV Counseling Office.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is awarding (4) $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors who intend to pursue an engineering, aerospace, STEM or scientific degree at a college or university in the fall. Stephen J. Brady “Stop Hunger” Scholarship - is designed to recognize and reward the great steps students are taking to fight hunger in their communities. All applicants must have demonstrated an on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger within the last 12 months. Apply online at

Edison Scholars Program - is awarding up to (30) $40,000 scholarships to graduating seniors enrolling in a 4-year college in the fall with plans to pursue studies in an eligible major in computer/information services, engineering, engineering technology, management info systems, math or physical sciences. Applicants must have a min. 3.0 GPA, attend a high school within an SEC service territory, and demonstrate financial need. Burger King Scholars Program – awards scholarships to help graduating seniors offset the cost of attending college. Recipients are selected base don GPA (min. 2.5), work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service. Equitable Excellence (formerly AXA Achievement) Scholarship Program – provides scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors. Awards range from $2500-$10,000 and are granted to seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited 2-yr/4-yr college/university for the 2021-22 academic year. The Home Depot Foundation’s Path to Pro Scholarship - program is committed to help train the next generation of skilled trade leaders by providing scholarships to further their education. Applicants must be a high senior (graduate or GED equivalent), plan to enroll in an approved trade-related program at an accredited 2-year school (vocational/technical), and focus on the Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing or Construction Management trades. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program – is a national program that awards college scholarships to high school seniors who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan at their school, in their community, workplace and at home. Applicants must demonstrate the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship, strong academic performance (min. 3.0 GPA) and have plans to enroll full-time at an accredited 4-year college/university in the fall. Jackie Robinson Foundation – provides scholarships to disadvantaged minority high school students with plans to attend an accredited 4-year college in the fall. Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) Scholarship Fund – is a program dedicated to providing underserved APIA students funds to support them in their undergraduate education. Min. requirements include – students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity, US citizen, enrolling as an undergraduate student in the fall of 2022 and have a min. 2.7 GPA. California Teachers Association (CTA) – has several scholarship opportunities available to dependents of active or retired members of CTA. Applications are rated by a point system. Be sure to check out the many scholarship awards offered by this organization. Award information can be found online at www.cta.org/scholarships. Deadline to apply is Jan. 28, 2022


Union Plus Scholarships – offers awards from $500-$4000 to current or retired members of participating unions, their spouses and dependent children. This is a competitive scholarship and applicants are evaluated on academic ability, social awareness, and financial need. Senior must have a min. 3.0 GPA and can be attending either 2-yr/4-yr college or trade/technical school in fall 2022. Microsoft Scholarship Program – offering scholarships up to $25,000 to graduating high school seniors attending a college/university in fall 2022 and studying computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline. A majority of the scholarships will be awarded to females, underrepresented minorities and students with disabilities. California State PTA Graduating Senior scholarships - are open to graduating high school seniors to acknowledge their achievements for volunteer service in their school and community. The students applying must be a member of his/her high school PTA/PTSA in good standing. American Postal Workers Union (APWU) - is offering scholarships to graduating seniors attending 2-yr/4-yr college or vocational/technical program in the fall. Applicants must have a “B” average, and be a child or grandchild of an active or retired APWU member. Communications Workers of America (CWA) Joe Beirne Foundation will award (16) $4,000 scholarships. Awards are open to members, children and grandchildren of CWA members. Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2022. The applicant must be a high school senior. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. Deadline for 2022 applications is February 7, 2022.


WORKPLACE RIGHTS LAW GROUP SCHOLARSHIP-The employment law attorneys at Workplace Rights Law Group are offering three $500 scholarship prizes for the fall semester 2022.
