Prestons Post
Term 4, Week 8
Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 8 newsletter. We are rapidly approaching the end of the year and have so many exciting things planned to celebrate the achievements and successes of our students in this very challenging year.
Fun Day
Our students have shown such resilience and determination this year and we wanted to reward each and every child with a fun day. We have planned for a movie session at school with popcorn and a drink as well as an afternoon of old fashioned games with no technology. Additionally, every class will have time on the jumping castle/blow up obstacle course. We are sure this will be a fun day for all involved.
Year 6 Farewell
Mrs Lloyd and the Stage 3 team have planned an amazing COVID style Year 6 Farewell. We are very sad to say farewell to our wonderful cohort of Year 6 students but we know that they are ready to move onto the next stage of their school careers and be extremely successful in life.
Presentation Day
Presentation day this year will also be a little different due to COVID. Our teachers have been busy planning awards, printing certificates and ordering trophies. The day will be an amazing celebration of student achievement and we will be sharing the presentation ceremony online.
Students arriving before school starts
Parents and carers are reminded that our school gates do not open until 8.30am when school starts. Some children are being dropped at the gates before 8am. This is very unsafe and no child should be dropped at school until 8.30am when the gates are unlocked and staff are on duty. Please make arrangements for your child to be cared for or supervised prior to 8.30am each day. We do have Cubbyhouse OOSH onsite and if you require care for your child we encourage you to contact them on 1300 553 583 .
P&C
Thank you to the parents who joined us for our Week 8 P&C meeting on Tuesday this week. This has been a challenging year and has posed difficulty for the members of the P&C to hold their regular fundraising. Despite this, our P&C have been extremely supportive and helpful over the year. At our meeting on Tuesday, the P&C endorsed the addition of tailored maroon shorts for our girls to wear. These are currently only available at the Moorebank Uniform store but we are making arrangements with the uniform store to also have these shorts available at the Liverpool store.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning.

Orientation Day Information for 2020
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
All prospective Casula High School students are welcome to attend and take this opportunity to orient themselves to our school, meet some of our staff and other Year 7 students.
Orientation day will take place on Thursday 3rd December, 2020. Students will be at Casula High School from 9.45am to 1.45pm, engaging in structured activities and meeting many of the important faces that will support their transition into High School.
Families will soon receive and information package with information regarding the high school experience for students and some important forms that need to be completed and returned. Forms can be returned on Orientation Day
The most current version of COVID-19 guidelines do require the following steps to be taken:
- All students attending Orientation Day need to have completed the enrolment form
- Students will be kept within school groups where possible and have strategies in place to avoid large groups of other students
- Students need to arrive and depart promptly on the day. Parents will not be invited into the school on this day.
- Students who are suffering from flu-like symptoms should not be in attendance on the day.
Whilst parents will not be invited to attend for an information session this year, we will create additional resources, including an Orientation Day website. The site will give you all of the necessary information regarding your child's transition into high school and an opportunity to ask questions you may have.
We look forward to meeting you on Orientation Day and welcome you and your child to our school community at Casula High School.
Please contact the school immediately if your circumstances change and you need to alter your enrolment.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Gareth Smith, Principal, Casula High School.
COVID-safe Summer Pack
As we come closer to the end of the school year, we’d like to extend our thanks to you, our parent community, for demonstrating so much resilience and patience towards the circumstances we faced together. We strived together to get the best outcomes for our students despite the pandemic and you have stayed by our side the entire time. Thank you again.
We will be sending a COVID-safe summer pack to each student before the year ends. The contents of the pack will help students maintain healthy hygiene practices and to stay COVID-safe during the school holidays.
Here are some quick tips to help you and your families stay COVID-safe during the school holidays:
- Encourage your children to use their packs whenever they leave the house
- Meet outdoors whenever possible and wear sunscreen
- Meet in small groups
- Encourage good hand hygiene practices and remind your children to cough and sneeze into their elbow
- Keep up-to-date with the latest health information by monitoring the NSW Government websiteExternal link
From all of us at Prestons Public School, be safe and enjoy the school holidays.

Classroom chat with Jellyfish
Term 4 is nearly over and 3 Rainbow Fish have had a blast. Even though our school events may look different this year, 3 Rainbow Fish have displayed a positive outlook on the awesome events that have occurred this term such as Russ the bus. We were super excited to have received our free books that were individually wrapped for each of us.
For Literacy, we are learning to write a persuasive text with high modality words and create a persuasive poster implementing visual features. The students have come up with so many convincing ideas to why we should eat Crunch and Sip every morning. For Maths, we have been learning to apply different strategies in order to help us solve multiplication and division questions.

Kindergarten 2021
We are now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2021.
Children who turn 5 by the 31st July 2021 are eligible to enrol for Kindergarten 2021.
Enrolment forms can be collected from the administration office.
School Travel 2021
2021 school travel applications are now open
Applications for student travel in 2021 opened on Monday 12 October 2020.
Students who require a School Opal card or travel pass for 2021 can now apply online. A new application should be submitted if a student is applying for a school travel pass for the first time or requesting an additional pass as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody).
Students who have changed school/campus, changed address, repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should re-apply or update their details.
*Applications must be completed by the student's parent or legal guardian if the student is aged under 16 years. Students 16 years and over must complete the application form themselves.
Where there is a change of distance eligibility based on a student’s grade, the system will automatically update a student’s entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If a student needs to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2020 to ensure that current student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card remains valid. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2020, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2021.
Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
