The Mac Memo
News from the Principal
It's been a fast start to the year! Our students have done a great job with learning our school-wide behavior expectations and are using their PAWS. Talk with your student about
Widening Your Thinking
Strengthening Your Engagement
If they follow their PAWS, they will be successful with behavior and their academic work.
I'd like to welcome another new face to McLean this year. Ms. Kalinda is here as one of our paraprofessionals. She'll be working in classrooms with our teachers and students will see her at recess at lunch. We are so glad she's here!
Conferences were a big success – lots of families were here at school to talk about their child’s progress. We are excited to share with you about our new system for reporting about what students know and are able to do. We are excited to share how your student learns and the success they are having. If you were not able to have a face to face conference, please schedule a telephone conference with your teacher.
Boys Night Out
Thank you to the families who participated in our family engagement event - what a great night. We hope you enjoyed meeting some new friends and being a SUPER role model for your student. We are grateful to have our families learn and play with us!
Our other big event this month is the Harvest Hoedown – October 10. Dinner starts at 5:00 and dancing at 6:00. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a great time with our school family. Look for details coming soon! During that day, our parking lot will be closed so we can practice with our students.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day
October 23rd is our annual appreciation day for our Bus Drivers. We are so grateful to have these people as part of our students' day at McLean. If your student rides a bus, it might be nice to bring them a card or a picture to show their appreciation. We LOVE our drivers.
Fall Parties on Oct. 31! Each classroom will have an afternoon party hosted by room parents to celebrate Fall. No costumes will be allowed for this party.

Standards Referenced Grading Update
Thank you for your patience as we are learning to use and communicate with you about a brand-new system. I know that with time, this will be a valuable tool to let you know what your students KNOW and are ABLE TO DO independently about our Kansas standards.
Our Grade Cards will look different when you receive them on October 25th, and we'll provide you a detailed explanation on how to read the new grade card. Please let us know how we can help you with our transition to Standards Referenced Grading (SRG).
From the Desk of...Raven Bills and Kathie Bills, PTA Co-Presidents
PTA Meeting: October 8th 6:30p.m. in the library.
Free babysitting will be available.
PTA Memberships: If you want to have a say in how PTA raises and spends money, please consider joining. Dues are $5, and you can join at any time. We support Kansas PTA and the National PTA with a large portion of our membership dues; this allows them to lobby our lawmakers on behalf of your children. Our PTA has short term and long term opportunities to support students: you can serve on a committee (such as the Field Day committee) or as a volunteer in or out of school. We are always happy to have new members and volunteers. We are proud to be WildCats at McLean because we exhibit a large amount of parent and community participation.
Here are our book fair totals. We ended up with a grand total of $4,271. Compared to last years fair at $4,063. We made over $1,000 with All for Books donations. Last year $190.
Come join us at the Harvest Hoedown. PTA will be selling dinner from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. We will take cash, check, or debit card.
PTA Family Night will be held on Monday, October 14th from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. If you come by the Freddy's Location at 8621 W. 21st St. and tell them you are from McLean, we'll receive a portion of their proceeds. It's a fun time to see some McLean friends!
Follow us on Facebook! We will communicate important events, due dates, and urgent volunteer needs. www.facebook.com/McLeanPTA
A BIG thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the Book Fair and the Staff Luncheon!
