New Format

Hooray! You found our *new and improved* online Newsletter! I figured I better get with the times so, here is the new format for our (mostly) weekly newsletters!

We are wrapping up our unit on Fractions! I can't believe it! The kids have done SO well with this unit. We went from having minimal ability to identify fractions to now solving addition and subtraction fraction word problems with whole numbers and different denominators! Wow! We'll keep working through the last section and doing review next week so that we can take the test the following week.

We started our biographies! Ask your student who they are researching! These are projects that we will be researching, taking notes on, and typing IN CLASS. We will eventually be having a "wax museum" where the students will act out their biography person. More info on this to come!

This week we presented our Personal History Projects! WOW! These are AWESOME! The kids put so much work and effort into them! I love learning about their friends and family members!
We also have started to look into events from the past and how we can learn from them. They will be continuing their research/projects on this next week.

Room 23

A letter went home today with details about our Valentine's Day Read-A-Thon! Also included was a list of the student's names in our classroom. If the letter didn't quite make it home to you, let me know & I'll send home another one! :)

We still have a few kids that haven't quite reached their 3 hours of IXL practice!! We need EVERY STUDENT to do at LEAST 3 hours for our party to happen on Monday! The kids know if they have or have not met the requirement so please check in with yours & ask if they need to practice over the weekend! Monday is the LAST DAY because it's our party day!

Report cards and portfolios went home TODAY! We were VERY busy today so I didn't have time for the kids to do their reflections so, please have them complete theirs (and you complete yours!!) at home!
You can send these back after they have been reviewed!

Mrs. Welch's Class is Taking Action!!!

Check out the message from Mrs. Welch below:

My class has divided into action groups to help the people of Flint during their Water Crisis. Some groups have decided to write to government officials or do informational campaigns. Two groups will be holding fundraisers to buy water.

  • Candy-Grams will be sold through next week (forms are going home today). They are $1.00 and will be delivered next Friday (form is attached as well).
  • Next week is a spirit week each day. Children can bring donations for a grade-level water jug. The grade with the most donations will receive a popsicle treat next Friday.

All research and ideas came from the children during the action cycle. Thank you for your patience and support. Please forward this information to the parents on your distribution list.
