Pictures, Drills, and More...
It was a short but very busy week here at CMS. We started off with picture day on Tuesday. If your child was absent or you were unable to order pictures, there will be a make-up day in November (see below) and all students will received a proof of their pictures when the packages come in and will have the opportunity to purchase at that time.
Run Drill
One of our student safety measures in the Norwood Public Schools is our Run/HIDE/FIGHT protocol developed in conjunction with the Norwood Police Department. This week we practiced our RUN drill, taking our students to a rendezvous location in the event that we need to evacuate the building. The students' did an excellent job and the Norwood police were there to help and support. If you have any questions about the drill, please reach out.
Medical Secure the Classroom
On Wednesday, we had a medical emergency that required us to do a secure the classroom. All doors are closed and locked but teachers remain teaching. We do this to give privacy to any student that needs to be transported by ambulance. The student for this emergency is safe and well. We appreciate how well our students did during this 20 minute emergency.
REAL MUSTANGS WEAR PINK!
Our CMS Pink Day will be Friday, 10/28. Student will also have the opportunity to donate during the month of October. Student should bring donations and t-shirt orders to the homeroom teachers.
Highlander Student Survey
to provide a measurement tool for teachers and school leaders based on key tenets of Social Emotional Learning and Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogy. Students will be asked questions about their school experience - do they feel welcome, do they feel their cultures are represented at CMS, so they feel they have a voice in their education and other similar questions. If you would prefer your student NOT take the survey, please email your child's homeroom teacher to request that they opt out. If you have further questions please email Margo Fraczek at mfraczek@norwood.k12.ma.us.
News from the Nurse
Allergen information
We in the nurse office are ecstatic that free breakfast and lunch are available to all students for the 2022-23 school year. We would also like to remind all families that you can look at all menus online through the Norwood Public Schools site and that allergen and nutrition information is available for every single food item we serve. You can look at the site at home together with your student to identify safe and healthy choices appropriate for your student. Please don't hesitate to call the nurse office for assistance in navigating the site.
School Screenings
We are mandated by Massachusetts law to conduct vision, hearing, height and weight screening on all seventh graders and postural screening on all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. More information on these screenings are available on the NPS website and in the CMS handbook. We will be beginning these screenings over the next several weeks. Any parent or guardian wishing to opt your student out of any of these screenings should email tsperber@norwood.k12.ma.us or send in a written opt-out note. We need the opt out notices every year, so if you have opted out in the past, please do not assume that is still in place. Please don't hesitate to email tsperber@norwood.k12.ma.us or call 781-440-5926 with any questions or concerns.
Seventh Grade Physicals
Per state law, all seventh graders are required to submit an updated doctor's physical at the beginning of seventh grade. We are still waiting on many students; please send in the physicals.
As always, reach out to us any time.
