Attendance
Please make every effort to get your children to school on time. If your child is absent, please call the school to inform the secretary. Part of our school’s accreditation is tied to attendance percentages. If students have significant absences, we are required to inform our attendance social worker to follow up. Please refer to the flyer below for tips to ensure your child is at school on time each day. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
- School starts at 7:20 each day. Students are considered tardy if they arrive 7:40 or later.
- Notify the school by calling the front office at (804) 228-2720 if your child will be absent from school.
Things to Know
Arrival Information
Be sure to have your student at school at 7:20 each day. The tardy bell rings at 7:40. Any student arriving after 7:40 will be marked tardy. If your child is tardy, you will need to walk him/her to the door to sign in.
During the first week of school, we will have extra staff present to assist students with getting to their new classes. Please note that parents are not permitted to walk their child to the classroom.
Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast & lunch are free to all Laburnum students. Any a la carte items, such as chips and other snacks, will require payment. We strongly encourage families to use MySchoolBucks to pay for a la carte items sold in school cafeterias. Find out more about MySchoolBucks, school menus, special diets and more at our School Nutrition Services page at https://henricoschools.us/nutrition-services/.
Transportation & Dismissal Information
Please review this section thoroughly as it will prepare you for the upcoming school year. Also, we anticipate the dismissal process to take a bit longer than normal for the first week of school. Please be patient and kind to our staff as we ensure that our students get home safely.
You must check Power School Parent Portal to see your child's bus number, bus stop, and arrival/departure time. Transportation is continuously updating the bus routes so please check every day to ensure that the information you have is current. If you registered late, your child may not be assigned a bus yet. You will need to arrange for your child to be dropped off and picked up until your child is assigned a bus.
Directions to create a Parent Portal account are linked below.
Car Riders
All students have been assigned a family number. The family number will be used to match students to the appropriate adult during afternoon dismissal if the student is a car rider. If you attended Open House you received card with your assigned family number. Please display the card on your rearview mirror in the dismissal line. If you do not have your family number with you during dismissal, you will be required to show your ID. Please note that this will delay the dismissal process so it is critical that you have your family number displayed in your vehicle. If you need an additional family number card, please let your child's teacher know.
If you did not get your card at Open House, it will go home with your student in his/her communication folder on the first day.
If you need a 2nd car rider tag, send a note in to the teacher.
Please view the map below to familiarize yourself with the traffic patter. Adherence to the traffic pattern allows for a safer flow of traffic during arrival and dismissal. Please see the linked map below of the updated traffic pattern.
Lastly, vehicles are not permitted to park in the bus loop, which is located directly in front of the building.
Early Dismissal
All early dismissal requests must be submitted in writing to the office. We cannot honor early dismissal requests via email or phone. Early dismissal will not occur after 1:30. This is a busy time as we prepare for dismissal. If you come to the office after 1:30 for an early dismissal you will be directed to the car rider line.
