Winter Weather and Winter Clothes
Having the right winter outerwear and gear is important for all students. Boots, snowpants and coats should be worn every day so playing in the snow is comfortable. When purchasing gloves, look for gloves that are waterproof or dry quickly. When students wear wet gloves outside, fingers can get very cold. Please make sure your child's name is written in all of the individual pieces of gear.
If you need any help in getting equipment for your child, please let someone in the office know. Also, remind your child to check the lost and found FREQUENTLY for lost items.
Principal's Note - Professional Learning Communities
Last newsletter, I mentioned a little bit about the work we are doing to improve teaching and learning here at Hillcrest. This week, I'd like to give a little more detail about what we mean by PLCs - Professional Learning Communities.
Twice a month, all teachers come together to review student data and plan instruction to meet the needs the data is showing us we have. This allows for collaboration between grade levels and it provides an opportunity for teachers to have more minds thinking through how we can meet student needs. These PLC meetings help ensure that our instruction is targeted and effective. We measure our growth based on how many students show proficiency in the skill we are focusing on.
We spend time looking at literacy and math data but we also take time to look at data related to belonging, emotional well-being and social skills. We know success requires us to look at children as a whole human being, capable of so much and naturally wired to learn!
