A Message from President, Kat Noland
Whether you are off to the State Fair, the pumpkin patch, the Balloon Festival, or just enjoying the changing leaves I hope you are enjoying the fun that October has to offer!
Our year is off to a great start. Thank you Dee Skerry for opening your home to the chapter for our first meeting and to Kathryn Thompson for keeping us engaged with a fun game. We had a productive meeting and I enjoyed everyone's company. Our next meeting will be on November 18 at 10am. I highly encourage all members to attend this meeting as we will be initiating new members. After initiation we will enjoy a program led by our very own Anna Goodrum. She will be sharing about her global summer learning experience. I hope you can make it!
All chapters have been urged to set up the groundwork for instant action by members when the NC Legislature goes back into session next May and important education-related issues are being considered during the “short session” of the General Assembly. To prepare, all members of our chapter are encouraged to make use of the time lawmakers are back home in their districts between now and May to build relationships with them. I encourage you to meet with Senators and Representatives to discuss school issues such as testing, class size, vouchers, educator salaries and benefits, per pupil funding, teacher shortages, and equal accountability for any and all schools that receive taxpayer dollars. Please let me know when you make these contacts and don't forget to use the Eta State 2017 Legislative Priorities (below) when speaking on behalf of Delta Kappa Gamma. By making these preparations now we will be ready next spring, no matter what Raleigh has in store for us!
From the Treasurer, Betty Marshall

Let's Sparkle!
One of my goals this year is to encourage savvy leadership. What does it mean to be a “savvy leader?” According to Google Dictionary, it is someone who is knowledgeable as well as someone who has common sense and has the ability to make good judgments. As we approach the 2017-2019 biennium where nominating committees across North Carolina will be seeking officers, I am certain they can identify many “savvy leaders” within their chapters. After all, DKG members are “key women educators” who were invited because of their leadership potential.
The challenge for each nominating committee is to encourage its members to believe they are not only worthy, but capable of holding positions requested. Eta State provides many opportunities for members to develop their leadership potential and it is my hope that every position is filled; that everyone who accepts will be supported and nurtured, and that each one will lead with confidence. Yes, my goal this year is to encourage savvy leadership and YOU are invited to
Sparkle along with me to make this happen!
