Volcanic Eruptions

Describe pyroclastic material and lava flows.

What is pyroclastic material?

Pyroclastic material is a fragments of rock that form during a volcanic eruption. Pyroclastic is made out of Felsic lava which have light tone color since if was made with silicon and feldspar, it has more trapped gas inside the volcano.

Pyroclastic Material

Violent Eruptions

The Felsic magma has a high viscosity, which is a mix of silica and feldspar, which has more trapped gases and a light colored tone.

Magma Flows

Quiet Eruptions

The Mafic magma has a low viscosity, which is a mix of magnesium and iron, which has less trapped gases and a dark colored tone.
